curious to find what other bikes we like and where gs ranks amongst us.

i'll go first since i asked the q:

1. ducati dark monster 620.
2. pre 02 suzuki sv 650.
3. my 01 gs!

honorable mentions: honda 599 hornet and yamaha r6.

in case you can't tell, i love them naked bikes!

05 SV650
04 R6
03 YZF600R
01 GS500

there are so many different ways to rank bikes... value, image, performance (twisties, highway eaters).  Overall its tough to compare, but here's my top 3:

1.  Suzuki SV100s - best looking bike ever *drool*
2.  Honda CBR600 F4i - comfy bike with all the performance of a 600 super-sport
3.  Yammaha YZF R6 (assuming the drive-dog issue was fixed in '03) - smokin styling, more power than you'll ever need, decent ergos and unbeatable performance.

Honorable mentions to:

YZF 600R for its all-arounder characterstics
Kawasaki Z-1000 for its in-your-face styling...

I think we all love the GS for value and ease of maintenance, but in the overall analysis, it just comes up short IMHO.

Here are my picks . . .

1.  Yamaha YZF 600R - Comfort and performance wrapped up in a very attractive package.  Love that Yamaha blue paint scheme!

2.  Suzuki Bandit 600 - Great sport performance without the insurance shock facter that goes with fully faired sportbikes.

3.  Yamaha FJR1300 - Perfect for two, but still fun for one.  Shaft drive is a big plus here too!  Insurance shock factor just kicked back in on this one!  ;)

Just my opinion, but hey, it's back to reality, and my 1990 GS500!  Oh well, as long as it's got two wheels and a motor, sign me up!!!

1990 GS500 - Red
Progressive Springs, Maier Fairing, 2003 Katana
Shock, NEP Cruise . . . . .

If I could own 3 bikes:
1. Aprilia Tuono w/the Carbon and Ohlins parts (forget what model)
2. Kawasaki Z1000
3. Yamaha Roadstar Warrior (yeah its a cruiser but its a fast cruzer that would put the harleys to shame)

GRU

ducati 748
yamaha yzf R6
yamaha fzr600 (early 90's)
my GS

AK191

1 Vincent Black Shadow
2 Norton Manx
Both of them would have to be parked in my family room on each side of the fireplace (hey, I dream big!)
3 just to tool around ...out of all the bikes I've had I miss my BMW K100rs the most, so I'd like another one!

Did I just show my age? :dunno:

How about cars?

I chose:

1995 Mazda RX-7 twin turbo
1970-72 Porsche 911S
1973 Alfa Romeo GTV 2000

Maybe a 240Z or mid-90s M3, and oh, yeah a Toyota Tacoma!

The nice thing about my list is that isn't too exotic and I might actually own a few of these cars in my lifetime.  Heck, I've already owned a '72 240Z.

my '70 Camaro with better paint ;)
'66 Chevy II with a pumped up small block
'55 Ford pickup
'67 Chevelle could be fun too

cars I would commute with?  4x4 Toyota truck or a Mini Cooper S (Works)

1) 1972 750 Norton Commando, black with gold pinstriping. I miss my old Norton!

2) 2006 Ducati 1000 Sport Classic. I wish they'd use valve springs instead of that silly desmo stuff, but that is a beautiful bike. I'm twitching about sending my deposit in for a production slot...

3) My silver '82 BMW R100s. Great fun, comfortable sport touring bike, once you get to terms with the big suspension travel and weird shaft drive effects. I love eating the miles on this bike. A smoked silver '76 R90S would be classier, but too expensive....

Cars are just for towing the race bike to the track, and getting to work in the winter! Although... a few laps around Nurburgring in a '67 Lotus 49 F1 car would be a treat!

Rema1000

Sorry, in no particular order:

Burgman 600 for the superslab
VStrom 650 for everyday
Monster 620 for fun

...and the GS for what I can afford, what I can insure, what won't break when it tips, and what I can fix when it breaks.
You cannot escape our master plan!

I toyed with placing that Ducati on my list, and the other two would end up on others; as well as the Smoke Red R90S on the "top 3 all time best factory paint jobs".  Excellent choices! :thumb:

I still drool at R90S silver or orange and pearl white R100RS. R bikes are way cool and my R75/7 was perfect around twisties and later with a side car attached.
My K100rs (flat black) was my Iron Butt bike. 500miles to NYC, party all nite, then 500 miles home in less then 24hrs several times......couple of 1500 in 24 also.
I've had some really neat bikes in 25 years of riding on the street, but still miss my K100 (Mad Max) the most. Second fav was a '77 GL1000 Cafe Racer. Squids just hated to passed by a Gold Wing with my wife on the back.

Top 3 on my list of bikes....

1) Aprilia Falco---Holy crap this bike is gorgeous.
2) Ducati GT1000---Holy crap this bike is gorgeous.
3) Buell XB9R---Holy crap this bike is gorgeous.

All 3 are beautiful in their own unique way.

Top 3 cars...

1) 95-98 Nissan 240SX with an RB25DET engine.
2) The Mazda Miata hardtop coupe that's been at the car shows.
3T) 1976 Corvette with a stupidly hot engine.
3T) 1949 Plymouth Sedan with a stupidly hot engine.

I have dreams about driving fast cars.  I guess that comes from 10 years of driving a shitbox 4cyl pickup....

bikes:
1. hd flhtcui (bagger)=highways,
2.gsxr1k gnarly twisties
3.gs, although, most people who buy these (gs), dont do so to be competitive w/ other bikes. most buy for a fun bike to ride, relatively cheap to ride etc.

Cars,
'98 lumina ltz (3.8)
'00 frontier (2.4)
'48 plymouth special deluxe (flathead six) (76,k orig. miles  )
