Traded in the 'ol Corolla for something more befitting of my driving tastes (and my new salary! :D)

It's actually not red, though the pic may lead you to believe it is. It's actually "hot lava" which is definitely burnt orange.

I really like those, but I would have gone with the Subaru version instead, personally.  Congrats!

I know what you mean about the color, my GS has the same issue.  This is the paint all cured and under natural light (overcast).

This is the paint rather fresh and under fluorescent light.

The color is "Tangerine Metallic" over "Galaxy Grey", which is a mix of black and silver.  It's a very dark burnt orange in person.

But I like that it never looks the same.  I paid enough for it, it better be unique!

The Subaru has some type of fuel injection thing that causes the top-end to need to be reworked at 60-80k miles or so. I don't understand it enough to adequately explain it but I've heard it mentioned a few times. Plus, I went to the dealer that I got the Corolla from, which wasn't a Subaru dealer. They gave me $15k for my Corolla and the best I could come up with online was only 10k trade-in. I'd say I got a fair deal, considering I only paid $15.9k for the Corolla.

That's legit.

My sister had her Ford Escape blow the engine not too long ago and it wasn't even fully paid off, we brought it back to the dealership where she got it and they bought the loan as well as gave her a few grand in trade-in value on it, which is WAY more than we would have got junking it.

Looks nice, they're good looking cars. I personally would've chosen the Subie, but that's just me. My dad wants a BRZ but eh, I don't think I'd actually want to own one if it was my only car. More of a station wagon guy myself.

C'mon Yama. No self-respecting car/motorcycle enthusiast or gearhead like me would ever buy a sports car with a slushbox.  :icon_rolleyes:

I was initially going to buy a white one but I honestly fell in love with this color after test driving it.

It's not really red at all, it's just the color of the pic. This is a much more accurate representation of it:

But then again, it kinda changes colors depending on the light. Bright, direct sunlight makes it look VERY orange. Shaded or indirect light makes it look dark orange and almost red.

You know what?  In that picture I am reminded that I've seen one in that color in real life.  It looks great!

There's one just like that not too far from me that I've passed a few times, it does look way better in real life.
That photo is almost too bright from what I can remember.

First pic is too red, second is too orange...

The FT-86 engine is literally identical to the BRZ engine. Both use the Toyota D4S dual injection system--direct injection all the time, with the addition of port injection at full throttle. The top end needing to be reworked is common of GDI engines. Gas gets injected straight into the open intake valve, which leaves a buildup on the back of the intake valves over time.

Nice car, by the way. I'm only a little bit jealous.

Or maybe, just maybe, they worked the whole 'good' deal back into her new payment book?

Wheel base looks about right to be a corolla underneath... Is it ?

The FT-86 chassis has nothing at all in common with the Corolla chassis. The Corolla's wheelbase is 5 inches longer.

Its also front wheel drive where as FT-86 is rear wheel drive... two totally different breeds of cars.

Nope.  They kept raising their offer on the trade-in until the car she wanted was in her price bracket.  Final price on the car in the paperwork reflected the trade in offer they gave us.
