Errr.... GeeP ... It's a Toyota 86/GT86/Scion .... Depending on where your buy it from in the world.... The Toyota half of the Toyota/Subaru tech and design sharing from recent years!!

It's a Scion FR-S (Front engine Rear-wheel-drive Sportscar I think...) There are distinct differences between all 3 of the so-called "Toybarus", mostly cosmetic and one or two mechanical. I know the Subaru BRZ supposedly has a stiffer ride.

What's this about fish? Also, I'd buy a Lotus Exige before I bought a Viper.

I think I might've gotten some bad gas or mislabeled gas. Stopped in a QuikTrip (very well respected gas station chain here) and filled up. Got back on the road and it had considerably less "punch" and the throttle response was down. I can't say with 100% certainty that what I put in my car was 93 octane like it calls for and not 91. It'll run fine with 91 but it retards the timing to compensate. So I HOPE that's what it is.

Sorry I've been out of the loop guys...new job is ridiculous. Fun... But ridiculous. :icon_idea:

As far as I can tell the only differences between the badged models are exterior cosmetics, interior trim levels, and a slight handling difference due to different rear suspension setups.  Reportedly the FR-S tends to oversteer while the BRZ tends to understeer.

From what I can gather the "FRZ" is a Subaru at heart with a Toyota on top.  Subaru engineered the performance side while Toyota handled the style and design.

But personally I like the looks of the Subaru better.  The wing on the back, the little side-vent things, the design of the front grille and fog-lights...
The Scion offered Red and Orange colors are nice, but as far as basics go I think the Subaru chosen Black and Grey have much more character, and it's hard to argue with the Subaru Blue!

Hopefully it's a Toyota engine not Subaru so you don't have the lovely Subaru timing belt and head gasket every 60000 miles

Subaru timing belt intervals are 105K miles for EJ series motors. New age EJ DOHC motors rarely experience head gasket trouble, and the EJ series itself is being superseded.

Even more specifically, the 2.5s from 95-99 have the HG problem worst, the 00-04 have it not quite as badly. I've never heard of it being an issue with the 2.0 or 2.2. The has been, in fact, the trend of people swapping down to the 2.2 for reliability.

Had I my druthers, I'd have a BRZ with a FR-S interior.

We Subaru drivers of the world still refuse to fully acknowledge its existence without the addition of driven front wheels.

Sexy ride, Kijona. Now put the money pretty away for a while and stack those new job pennies.  ;)

Subaru has never been solely AWD. Subaru has made RWD cars in the past and continues to make FWD cars to this day. We Subaru drivers know our facts. Join the club.

(sigh)

Facts?

Fact: at no point was the assertion made that Subaru has made only AWD vehicles

Fact: it was a lighthearted statement about a nice car on a forum for motorcycles

Suggestion: have a tea, a stretch and relax.

The Subaru engine used in this Scion FR-S does not use a timing belt but instead a timing chain. Not to say that it is maintenance free by any means but it should last a whole lot longer than the timing belt like you're talking about. It's a good thing too, because I would hate to have to try to replace the timing belt on this engine. I'm dreading the day when I have to change the spark plugs.

Aside from that, let's not argue amongst ourselves about otherwise trivial matters.

The sarcasm tags are easier to use, despite what John recommends.

It seems it has become necessary to qualify my posts:
I am/am not trying to start an argument. This post is/is not intended to be a personal attack. I am/am not merely attempting to present a different viewpoint.

I've never experienced that timing belt thing. Everybody I've ever talked to about it seems to have at least one uncle that had a timing belt go for 300,000. I'm glad they went to a chain.

Argument? What argument?

Enjoy the car. Have a track day and regale us if you can.

Janx101

Man ... That uncle must be sick of the timing belt then! Bahahahha

I DIYed an EJ timing belt, cam seals, water pump, and crank seal -- yet I won't DIY a GS valve adjustment. Go figure.

The FA timing chain has not been around long enough for reliability data to come in. I heard the cam love issue is resolved too.

EDIT: "lobe." The cam lobe issue... Heh... Sorry.

Minor update, debadged the car (removed just the FR-S logo on the back). I have some TRD badges on the way (yeah yeah, but it'll look good). Along with splash-guards to keep road crap off the sides of my car, nice LED (made me think of Patrick when I ordered them) bulbs for reverse, tag, trunk, and dome.

Also, I have a Perrin cat-back exhaust on the way as well. I'll post pics once I get it installed.
