GS500 Dies while riding

Back again, This has happened 5 times yesterday, and probaly a dozen times since I have owned the bike. I would be cruizing ( most of the time 6th gear at 5500 rpm- 6k at 65-70 mph)then the bike would act like it was out of gas and sputter /jerk, I would pull over and the thing would not start unless I used the choke, sometimes it would be ok for a few minutes or all day. what do you think? Also how do I keep my rpms from sticking? i f I pull the clutch in sometimes the rpms stay up for a few seconds to a minute. and Now I have like a knock sound coming from the top?? Sounds like the cam knock but its consistant.. and yes there is oil Thanks

Check this thread out, see if that sounds like what you are experiencing... it doesn't have to be a crosswind, just enough airflow across that tube to inhibit gas flow.

The other possibility is that your tank vent is clogged or the tube is pinched.  Easiest way to verify is to open the gas cap when this 'fuel starvation' occurs... if you hear a whoosh sound, your tank isn't venting properly.  When this occurs, its hard to for the gas to flow to the carbs since air isn't replacing the now empty portion of the gas tank - it creates at sort of vacuum or negative pressure inside the tank.

OK I will try that.. now that I think about it it did happen when it was very windy, I will try rerouting the carb vent and see if that helps.. Thank you
