So, this is what happened to me yesterday: I was on my way to work when my bike started to loose power and began backfiring, when I stopped it died. I managed to start it again by giving throttle and pressing start button and hardly got home.

Right cilinder wasnt workin, checked the sparksplug and it was fouled, replaced it but nothing happened, I checked if it had electricity on that side but there wasnt. I tried the coil on the other side and it worked perfect (Left cylinder has no problems).
I have checked alll the wires and everythings looks fine, my mechanic says that my CDI is dead, I dont want to believe because here it costs around u$250.
What dou you think?
in case the CDI is dead is any way to bring it back to life?

Thank you all...

Juanfer, the best thing I can think of is to have you work your way through the 3-page Narrowing down the problems to a broken bike thread.

When you get to the bottom of the 2nd page, fill out the resistance readings "questionnaire" and report the results.

We can go from there.  OK?

I have a couple of GS500 CDI units for a little less than $250 if that turns out to be the problem.

I'd pull the round ignition cover and make sure the little black senders are still screwed down, and the rotor is tight. Might be a loose wire somehwere too.

$40 plus shipping for a CDI.

Yep... thats a 'little' less alright...

geez what with this week --- whilst returning from a ride last Sunday my the GS started to run like a dog whilst my wife was riding it.  Turns out we had lost spark to the left cyclinder spark plug.

We just limped the bike home and as Murphy's law has it the bike came good just 100m from our driveway.  SO now I can't trouble shoot the cause  :x   As a precaution I did clean all the electrical contacts with some electrical contact cleaner and gave them a squirt of WD40 before reconnecting the plugs.  One connector did have a fair bit of white corrosion on it - so touch wood that was the cause.

Cheers

The good new is that I tried the cdi on another bike and it worked perfect, so, thanks KevinC but I dont need it now. The coils are working put i dont get any electricity (none) on the right sparkplug.

Already checked the ignition cover didnt see anything out of place or loose wires. Ill check all the electrical conections today and keep you informed.

Thanks!
