The screws on my carb float are really stripped and I wanted to replace them. I read up that allen head screws are better than the phillips head because of this issue. Does anyone have a good site to buy these from? I checked out this site and the part is 38 in the diagram - but that would be the OEM phillips screws.

Thanks a ton!

If I recall correctly, the screws for the float bowls are M4x.7 thread.  Lowe's even has the in stainless steel in the specialty parts drawers.

You can find them anywhere :)

You need:

Eight M4 allen head bolts, 10mm length.

It's worth replacing the screws that hold on the diaphram caps (the plastic covers on the other end of the carb) at the same time. For that you need four M5 allen head bolts, 12mm length.

Head onto eBay or even Amazon, you'll find the bolts you need.

Thanks for the quick replies guys! I will head over to Lowes to see if they have anything. Thanks for saving me the shipping time and cost

Just so you know don't worry about length you can easy cut them down to side with a dremmel, bench grinder hack saw or a really good pair of dikes

if you do, it's best to put on a nut first; when you take it off, it'll clean up the threads where the screw was cut.

top cover screws are M5x.8

Oh, well the ones I ordered are M4 10mm and they fit on the 02' carbs. I think I saw those specs on the GS wiki

edit: This is the link that gave those specs, I don't know if the sizes changed depending on model year but M4 10mm float screws and M5 12mm diaphram cap screws will fit an '02 http://cgi.stanford.edu/~sanjayd/gs500/Maintenance/FreeSeizedCarbScrews
