Digital speedometer

Hundreds of threads but not answering specific question I'll do my best to explain this I have an 07 F

Everything works tach works good now speed is good but only issue is that it reads in kilometers I need mph I contacted seller told me how to change it but the only problem is the gs doesn't have a hot positive wire that is on when the bike is "off" to my knowledge it will use very low amount of battery and from what some people say they have there's running when the bike is off.


The speedometer isn't "on" but shows a black and white no backlight clock when it's off but since I don't have the hot wire it won't show on mine any help?

Not sure what you are asking.

The GS does not have a digital speedometer. It is a mechanical dial labeled in KM/MI in the US and KM only outside the US.

If you have questions on one you installed, then maybe pictures? Model number?

Notice the time on the very bottom it's suppose to always show that otherwise my savings won't be saved witch would require a hot wire to always be on here is a few pictures I just took don't mind the mess and here is also a generic wire diagram.

The seller on eBay told me to open up the ignition wires the 4 wires and tap into one of them, but according to the wiring diagram on the motorcycle when the key is "off" none of those wires are hot

The red wire to the ignition switch is always hot.

Yes that worked! Thank you so much just didn't wanna cut up my ignition wires for no reason. Do you thnk the power saving mode will kill my battery? It looks like the picture when it's off.

Here is finished project incase anyone was wondering everything works great. I have the front magnet in the front wheel. The speedometer is in a custom bracket made out of an old front fender for a scooter

Will do im liking the speedo so far

The headlights are from advanced autoparts they were 20 dollars for both they are baja fog lights/driving lights they are okay im upgrading to two hid lights soon the ones I have now are pretty dim I can see at night and everyone else can see me but they give off a yellow color and arent as bright

So an update, the speedometer was great worked flawless then all of a sudden it became real dim and would cut out when driving. I took the wires apart messed around and now it does not dim works great again UNTIL I put the bike in 1st the speedometer  literally dies and has no power what would cause this? I'm on my way to work now other wise I would take it back apart right now.

Possible clues:

The other day on my way home traffic was jammed and I say there for an hr with my bike just idling, both headlights on.... They have 100w bulbs so I melted a wire in the headlight I took those apart and put in the old bulbs and they work and are fine BUT since I sat that long with the old bulbs my battery was pretty dead so I charged it and now it's good...

the other day I was driving and the speedometer would read 110mph 50mph just jumping everywhere I figured the sensor was dirty it was fine.

Like I said speedometer works in neutral with or without the headlights on as soon as I shift into a gear the speedo turns off

it isnt grounding out on a hidden melted wire thats used to show if its in neutral or not?

After reading a little about these gauges it seems like a lot of people have issues with getting them set up properly.  Did you have any issues getting it to read the correct RPM and MPH?  Would you mind sharing how you hooked this unit up?

With my stock gauges I'm doing "85" on the interstate and people are passing me like I'm sitting still.  I would like to know my actual speed.

Wiring it up was a pain but once it worked it was very accurate the rpm seemed to be accurate and thr mph was very accurate. My phone has a speedometer on it that was the same as speedo and those radar signs always said what was on my speedometer. I recommend them even tho mine crapped out.

Idk if I posted it here but I took apart the speedometer ans a diode fell off the board and the ground that was soldiered on the board came off as well

If you have any more information or any pictures of the wiring/install I would love to see them.  I should have no problem getting the indicators wired up to it.  Do you still happen to have the instructions that came with it?  Your bike appears to be oil-cooled so you must have an electronic tach anyway.  I would have to figure out how to get mine to wire off of the coil packs as I still have a cable driven tach.
