GS for sale in my area

I just saw an ad on my area's craigslist for a GS, 1995.

Would you consider this worth checking out for someone in the market for a cheap bike? I haven't had a GS500 in years.

I'd want to know the mileage,  ride it around long enough to see if it's going to die for whatever reason , check charging system with a voltmeter ...

Decent deal if all is in order.  An ongoing pia if bad ignition module or voltage reg/rectifier - and parts are expensive and many shops won't touch anything over 10 yrs old.

Definitely worth checking out for that price.

Check for rust and evidence of rust in gas tank. It's ideal if it's completely cold starting when you look at it so you can see how much choke it takes how easily it starts, which helps you determine the initial condition of the carbs. Look for cracks in the tire rubber. Most of all, make sure all wear looks like it matches the mileage. Don't be afraid to offer less if it looks worse in person....and definitely don't be afraid to walk away.

As for parts being expensive, all parts are expensive of you only buy from the dealer. There are tons of lightly used parts available on eBay from bike breakers like Pinwall.

I'm a little wary about the installed Dynojet kit. Are these legal for the road? I wonder if they can cause problems, too, if improperly installed.

The dynojet kits are legal, however they tend to be problematic (search the forum...).

This bike has only 3230 original miles?! On a '95?! Yikes. I'd be very wary about the maintenance on this one as many people think that maintenance is by mileage alone, not time. Some things like brake fluid and such must be changed based on duration.

No pics on CL also makes me think it has some damage, which is why he really wants to get rid of it....regardless what he wrote.
