Hey guys

I'm very new here and I just got my first legal street bike.
It's a gs500f (04) all stock. I'm okay with the sound of it but I'd like it to sound less "poppy" or "beefy" and more like how a nice ..well street bike sound I guess. Hopefully that's easily understood. I'm sure you guys are aware of what a stock 500 sounds like.

Is it possible to achieve that higher tone "tuned" sound ?

I've watched some videos about yoshis but it didn't seem to do THAT much. Or at least what I'm going for anyway.

Thanks a lot
Gary

if you mean more of a GSXR or other supersport sound then its nigh impossible... not enough cylinders...

ive still got the stock exhaust so cant say from direct experience...

heard a few Yoshi pipes out and about though and know what you mean... i think the lads have also removed any silencer plugs to get as much noise as possible...  :dunno_black:

watched a few videos last year of Jardine cans... seems to be a little higher note? at mid rpm ... but more raucous! (think the 'thing' is to make them loud as possible too?)  ..

most off the shelf stuff seems to be fairly similar in end result...

to gain a tuned note i think youd nearly need to go for a custom full exhaust with a guy thats really knows pipes etc.... $$$$! ..

you could try something like this? .. but its pretty raspy!

member weedahoe on here did a dual yoshi .. says in his video that it sounds nice at higher rpm .. (without actually giving us the sound!! .. what were you thinking weeds!?  ;) )

and this one isnt too bad

.. end of the day though you still have 2 cylinders chugging up and down in the block... never ever going to make same noise as 4 cylinders!!  :thumb:

Thanks guys.

Yeah..kinda figured it just wouldn't be possible. The yoshis actually don't sound that bad for what they are. I mean I'm not saying I don't like the sound per se. Was just looking for a more "tuned out racing/ rice burner sound" ha.

Looked around at different videos though. Actually did see the dual yoshis and honestly I think they sound the best. I'll probably go for one of them once I get settled into it and all.

I'm also interested in painting it soon too. Any thoughts on that? It was definitely painted before because it's got a red seat piece and the bottom half of the front fairing is painted red. Terrible job too.

rotten

IMHO , you best bet is leaving it alone . If you plan to upgrade to another bike after this ,its money you will not re coupe.
My recipe for mods is -
Proper Rider Gear - Helmet , leathers , boots, gloves .
Seat Time
Tires
Seat Time
Seat  Time
Brakes/Supenion
Rearsets
Seat time
Seat time
Seat time
Then Maybe start adding power .

If you have paint skills .. Or a close mate with paint skills that can help you or do it for you ..then have a go.... I'm no painter... But been told many times... "It's all in the prep!!" ..  :thumb: ... Of course a skilled hand can throw a good coat of paint on... But awesome prep will always produce a better result!?

Paint$hop$ do great job$ but it$ pretty expen$ive !!!

I think I could handle painting it. I'm a tattoo artist and I've done almost every type of painting there is. I airbrush too so I COULD pull something nice off on it. But I really just want it all to be the same color. Or at least something I like. Previous owner painted parts of it this deep red and I'm not feeling it.

Would either do all matte black or lime green with the black tank.

Anyone know the best supplies to use for the job? That would be helpful!

Thanks!

lookin for kind of a fart can on a civic sound?, if youre bored you can punch the centre baffle on a stock can, or like I did, a wedge can off of a gixxer. was a tad louder, but it ( the sewing machine sound the gs is known for) never leaves
