yep its the same shock i have fitted to my project bike.. it does require a little modding to get in though.. just some adjustment to the mounting eye on the shock.. there are write-ups online on how its achieved

wakey86

brilliant, thanks for the quick reply guys.

Wakey86 you can return favour and tell me what are dimensions of gs500 seat lol Total length, length of pillion part, and max width. I am not in hurry but I will be very grateful (asked for it on other thread but guys forgot to give me those)

wakey86

The max length is 470mm front to back
And max width is 290mm.

Remember my seat has been chopped Dow to remove pillion area

Mate! Your project is such an inspiration! Lots of photo's and stuff! I'm going to do something similar, and seeing your photos gives me the confidence i need to really start cutting and grinding!

Loving the project!

A question thoug. When i remove my sidefenders, there's a lot of cabling there. As well as a things like (i think) CDI unit, voltage regulator, and a some other units. I don't see them in your picture! What did you do with those? where did you hide them? :)

A lot of the wiring was simply routed out of sight behind the subframe.

The rectifier and larger items were moved to behind the battery.

There hasn't been much major surgery lol, about an hours work over all

After removing my exhaust, I took it to the exhaust shop and they measured the amount of back pressure created by the muffler alone.

We then inserted an 8" db killer baffle and packed around it with muffler packing and welded a smaller diameter tube ahead of the baffle.

She Sounds beautiful top end, not crazy loud as it looks.
no Loss in low torque, have not re-jetted as of yet there shouldn't be much need the only concern are when changing down gears at high revs I get some angry sounding exhaust popping and makes me wonder if this is exhaust scavenging alone or if it will burn the exhaust valves over time.

I would rather it be running rich than lean.

P.s I also had the tyres filled with nitrogen and had a new Bridgestone battlax front tyre fitted

Love the dash/gauges/mirror setup you've got going... really works well together!!
Superbike bars, '04 GSXR headlight & cowl, DRZ signals, 1/2" fork brace, 'Busa fender, stainless exhaust & brake lines, belly pan, LED dash & brake bulbs, 140/80 rear hoop, F tail lens, SV650 shock, Bandit400 hugger, aluminum heel guards & pegs, fork preload adjusters, .75 SonicSprings, heated grips

I finished rebuilding that clutch and master cylinder perch set i got.. looks better with some decent paint on, and the cheesehead zinc fasteners replaced with stainless and some decent stainless hose clamps. I pulled them appart and lubed the seals with red rubber grease. made sure they were seated properly, and copper greased the pivot pins and fasteners. Just need to work out the length of braided brake lines i will need and the control cables.. does anyone know the length of the brake lines and hoses for the US market GS500 that was fitted with risers as standard? (the uk models all had lip on style bars so the cables, brake lines were shorter to suit) i have acquired a US market GS top yoke cover with risers.. and am fitting braced renthal type bars.

Quick update, I have yet to fit the shock.

I have ordered new carbon ceramic brembo pads front/rear

I one way neo chromed the front/ rear lights
And added a cut off line to the lights for the hid conversion

I also retrofitted a tb racing air filter to the stock surround

Nice job ! Is the air filter a universal fit or meant for the GS? How does it run with the new filter?

wakey86

After living with the neo chrome and eyelids I decided to go another route.

I removed all of the above, polished the lenses and ordered some hid's

I also made a triumph speed triple windscreen copy and wrapped it

Alright after trying to fit the gsxr rear shock and realising it would be too harsh for the street I have ordered and fitted a sv650 rear

The height difference at the back is noticeable and the seating position does feel more aggressive

The air filter being glued foam - I'd be worried about it coming loose from the face plate.
I have been looking into using somehting like carb cleaner on the original filter glue and getting it separated out nearly intact without damaging the filter. Then I'd put a sheet of foam in it cut to size. That way the original mesh will hold in the foam. When foam gets dirty you can pull it out with your hand through the opening and yea gonna be a bit tricky, not easy as putting it in - and you can wash it and put it back in.
But well, the stock paper filter washed out in gas and blown out with air compressor makes for a very clean filter.
Cool.
