Hey guys. A couple days ago my 2009 gs500f started to slowly leak oil. The oil light came on when I was near my house and it was practically empty. The shop said it wasn't the lines, but said it was probably the casing? I'm completely new to motorcycles, so how big of an issue is this? Estimated cost?

Gotta figure out where it's leaking from first. Top off your oil and check it repeatedly (especially true if you have a leak!).

Clean the engine of all oil stains including under the sprocket cover. Then get some baby powder and toss it around any suspected leaking areas. Take the bike for a 20 minute ride or so to get the engine up to temp, park the bike and start inspecting the engine. The baby powder will cling to oil leaks and make a paste.

Once you have an idea where it's leaking from, take a picture and post it here.
