My gs500 is acting up on me and im really confused on what could be causing it, so i hope yall can help. It gets a knocking noise that ONLY happens when i go through the city and or when the bike gets super hot. i tried putting 20w-50 oil in it to see if that might help but it hasnt. so im wondering if the oil pump isnt keeping up with the need in oil or what. i know these engines are virtually bullet proof but this has scared me to the point i wont ride it til i figure out what it is. Any advice would be swell. i miss riding my gs.

Take it to a shop and have the oil pressure measured, or buy an oil pressure gauge and do it yourself. It's really straightforward check.

The oil pump is pretty large on these bikes, and I've never heard of it being an issue. GS500 engines are pretty rugged, but very prone to bearing failure if the oil is allowed to get low. If you've ever been more than a quart low, there's a chance you've got bearing damage.
