Here is a picture of the EU model needle... it is identical to the US model needle except that it has multiple c-clip grooves to be adjustable. The US market will only have a single groove (hence the need for the washers to shim the needle).

I was just about to edit my post to include a few pictures that I stumbled upon, but thanks for posting that one! I guess the one on here is the EU one too then? those different grooves did throw me off at first. I think mine is slightly different.

Left is stock EU needle I think.
Right one is DJ or other aftermarket needle.
Cool.

is the only difference between the EU and USA just the grooves at the top then?

Yes thats the only difference, the EU model was adjustable and the NA model was not. Otherwise identical. I don't know if there are some other differences to the carbs though... there may be. But yea that other needle you have actually isn't a Dynojet needle. The dynojet needle tapers very extremely and not evenly... the taper almost "steps down". However that is still definitely some sort of aftermarket needle... just not dynojet.

The other aftermarket needles are Factory, but those are nearly just like stock. Maybe the euro version of the factory is like yours ?

yea that's just the a random picture I found online while looking for a stock needle. mine definitely has an extreme taper. as you said it steps down. you can pretty much see a little ring where it gets wider all of a sudden.

once agin I've yet to get a chance to pull the carbs and get pictures. not enough time between work and nursing an angry tongue piercing.

My advice would be to just try out the lunchbox with your current jetting - it may actually work fine.  You'll likely have issues if you swap the lunchbox and jets in without swapping the needles.  And it could very well work out just swapping the lunchbox.  Once the lunchbox is in, if you still have a mixture issue, get the mikuni jets and needles... Best case you save some time and dough, worst case you gotta wait a couple days on jets and needles.

here are the long overdue pictures, now that I'm looking at it, they dont really look like the K&N pods...

and then heres the photo from the wiki for reference.

so yea, it does kind of look like theyre different, but they still have a K&N logo on 'em. meh, I'm switching them out for a lunchbox anyway so no big deal. Just waiting on some stuff, and my next paycheck to start changing everything out. (should probably throw a breather filter on there as well)

if anyone cares, the stock needle vs my dynojet stage 3, in case anyone cares.
