Fuel tank fitment

I have a 2001 and the tank has been over taken with rust. It has began to eat pin holes in the top f the tank which now leak gas it I brake hard. I have been looking for a tank for some time but I am having trouble finding a tank that is specific to my year . So my question is would a 2005-2009 tank fit my bike. I have been able to find some online. I have seen pictures and they look identical mounting wise and I dont mind if the style is a bit different . I just need to know if a newer year tank will fit my bike.

01 and later all will fit without any mods. Its the same tank.

89-00 will fit with minor mods. And hey it will look angular, instead of bulbously fat. Sorta like trading in Roseanne for Katy Perry.
