Wagner 552 flasher does NOT work with LED turn signals

I just got my wagner 552 electronic flasher relay to try to get my LED turn signals to work. It did not work... only one led lights up and its solid. Anymore thoughts or suggestions?

The Buddha

The relay needs to be all electronic. Not a magnetic coil switch style relay. I am not sure if that is a 552. I thought it was. Sorry.
Cool.

Hmm it was listed as new old stock, it looked like all the other pics of the wagner 552 I have seen so it should be the same. Anyway I ordered this other one, plus a 3rd model too, and some led load resistors. Hopefully some combination of these will work otherwise I will have no choice to but to order a new set of stock turn signals (threw the others out) and just deal with the hideousness :(

Yea New old stock ... How old ? It may be a 1925 one where there is a little mouse and a spring loaded reed stick and when you send 12v to the mouse, it will jump and that releases the spring loaded stick ... Its got a life time Warranty ... as soon as the life of the mouse is over, its dead. As is its warranty.

To quote the famous words of "Red Green" about "May - December romances" ... May and December of what year ?

haha its not that old... apparently it was discontinued by wagner so all of them on the market are "new old stock". Going by the packaging I would say it is no more than 4-5 years old.

Ok new information. I got my LED load resistors yesterday and just installed them with the wagner 552 installed and the right side blinks as normal (front and rear on the right side)... and I do believe this is an electromechanical flasher as you can here it audibly ticking, and if you put your finger on the case you can feel it going "poing..poing..poing". So I reinstalled the stock flasher and it also works but again just the right side (front and rear). Also the flasher indicator on the dash doesnt flash, it is however very very faintly light solid.

Any thoughts, I need help  :dunno_black:

don't you need a couple of diodes in the warning light lamps and a bridge type connection? even if you do have a Electronic LED flasher unit?

So even more info, I just saw that I had a package I missed and in it was the 552 electronic one that buddha linked me... I just tried plugging it up, same as the other two flashers except this one was makes a noise but its clear and I can tell it is a solid state flasher. But yea still no go... :/

Im not sure that applies since the dash indicator lights are still stock bulbs... the only leds are the 4 turn signals

that i am unsure about as I'm changing all the bulbs on my bike to led except the headlights.. they will be HID or Xenons. i would search the posts to see what the deal is if you leave the warning lamps as incandescent bulbs.

I dont really see anything on old threads.. but I would think this would be the most common thing, just changing the turn signals... Anyone else have any ideas  :dunno_black:

Ok I give up, it is simply not possible to run 4 LED turn signals on a GS 500. I am so absolutely pissed right now I could take a hammer to this effing bike and be happy about it.

I tried disconnecting the load resistors now that I have the no load flasher, however it appears that at least one resistor still needs to be connected in order for the right side to flash... but still only the right side flashes. Now with only the single load resistor connected, with I press the left turn signal the right turn signal comes on... the right turn signal also comes on when I press the right turn signal lol

I am at my wits end, I have to be able to drive this bike out of my apartment complex to move next weekend and at this pace it doesnt look like that is going to happen, Im about to have a breakdown, seriously upset.

I redact my previous statement, it is now working... well everything except the dash indicator light. So here is the deal, all 4 load resistors have to be in place if you want no fast flashing, however the signals will work with just a single load resistors (the other 3 will just fast flash). Also the polarity of the LED bulbs has to be swapper from one side to the next, so on the right side I had to plug + to - and - to + but on the left side it is + to + and - to - now this setup will work with the stock flasher unit or either of the two 552 model flashers, although I decided to use the see through plastic flasher that buddha linked me because it has a nice loud clicking noise and since I wont have a dash indicator having the sound is better than nothing... eventually I will have to take apart the dash again and put LED dash indicators in so that it all works together nicely.  But I am legal without dash indicators, so thats enough for now.
