So I've come to a dead end with my 1995 gs500, I have a slip on cafe style exhaust and kn lunchbox and the carbs have been rejetted accordingly (from Buddha), so far I've re sealed my gas tank, cleaned carbs and put new diaphragms in, I've also recently checked the valves and the clearance was too little so put new shims in, new ngk iridium plugs, and I still have the same problem one day I was riding to work 65-75mph and it felt like I was running out of  gas and bogging so I switched to reserve and still nothing eventually died I gave it a minute and it fired right back up but as soon as I put it in gear and release the clutch it would sputter out and die, now after sealing the tank to ensure no rust was getting getting in the carbs then new diaphragms because it's the only thing in the carb I hadn't replaced and new plugs cause they got crappy from all the bogging the only thing else it can think of if the check all the breather and vent lines, anyone ever experience these symptoms? I've searched around and the only thing that seems similar is a burnt valve but when I put new shims in I made sure the clearance was on the higher end of spec and I had the shims measured to ensure the number and actual size were the same. Sorry this is so long just trying to be thorough. Any help is appreciated -Will

Also forgot to mention my carbs seem to be kind of hiccuping not sure if it's backfiring or not and the throttle is not very responsive

Talked to a friend and he thinks it's the ignition coils I'm going to check them later today

I noticed on my tank petcock that the full on position was not as free flowing as tturning itback slightly. I don't know of it is just mine but I noticed it while flow testing both petcocks. Also what jetting are you using specifically?  There is a little nipple on each of the black diaphragm covers on you carb are they in tacked and  caped off? It sounds to me you still need to some work on your carbs.

I agree it could easily be electrical. Coils or trigger box. Once the parts get warm they expand and can cause open circuits. If you let the bike cool for a while, and it fires right back up that is a classic sign of electrical agony.

If it starts right back up after it dies, without cooling down a bit, then it is likely fuel related.

Next time it dies on you, check spark immediately, if no spark you've got it found out.

Good Luck,

Thrillwill: can you put the symptom and whether it was occouring before the rejet and if the rejet changed it.
You've done so many htings at random to it - maybe post after each step what it was doing and if it changes - like in step by step, not all in one sentence without breaks or punctuation.

And the 65-70 mph bogging and dying sounds like a vacuum lock in the tank. How long do you have to ride it before it does that ?
Tank sealing etc etc makes it worse sometimes.
Your gas cap needs to be cleaned - maybe ride with it open to see if it solves it.
I know of some bikes that will dent their tanks with the vacuum. Honda shadow 1100's if I recall.

Cool.
