Hi new to forum and motorbiking...! (Introduction and Pics)

Hi there I would like to introduce myself to everyone I am Andrew I live in bonny bonny Scotland , Aberdeen City I am 32 yrs of age and I am currently doing my motorbike license I have passed my CBT and Theory I am currently going to be doing my Module 1 at the end of this month.

I bought a 1998 Suzuki GS500E with 26,600 miles on the clock tax just ran out last month and 10 months M.O.T for £900 it looks really clean and I am very very happy with it, I know these bikes have got bad reviews from like Men & Motors and so forth but I think they must be comparing the GS to a superbike lol....

Even though I don't know much at all about motorbikes I done a lot of searching to what I could afford and out of the Honda CB500 and Suzuki GS500E I chose the gs simply because I felt more comfortable on this bike and to me it looks ace.....

You mentioned about bad reviews on the GS... Idk all about bad reviews on these bikes... I don't think I have ever read a bad review on the GS  I mean, they are a perfect beginner bike and they don't get boring too quickly, they are easy to work on, they look sharp, run forever, etc.  I agree with you... they must have been comparing it wrong or something

I was meaning these reviews but I read the comments below and there was a lot of angry GS500 owners commenting about how they don't know how to review a bike and so forth and my personal opinion I agree I am very happy we my bike

I could finds hundreds of positive reviews on the Internet...in fact that MM review is the only really negative one I've ever seen!  Those guys and that girl are idiots, to use a polite term!

I bought my 2009 GS500F new from the dealer in 2010...for $4000 US...this means the lowest cost bike in USA......I've ridden the bike 45,000 miles now...  TROUBLE FREE....pure fun and enjoyment..great mileage nearly 70 MPG at times.....I make 160 mile ride every Saturday and again on Sunday...it is comfortable...this bike is the smartest purchase I've every made in my life!  I occasionally go bike "shopping" and can't find anything out there that would suit my needs better than the GS....

After all those miles, I still get compliments on the bike from other bikers...they say .."Is that new"?

They are surprised to find it has 45,000 miles on it and still looks like it just came out of the showroom!

If the GS500 was as crap as they say in the MM review, how come it stayed on production over 20 years?  One of the top selling bikes in Australia?  and offered in just about every country in the world?

Be careful of what you hear on the Internet...any A-Hole with a camera can become a self appointed "expert" even if they are stupid morons!

I could go on an on about the virtues of the GS500...but you get my point!

I checked this out and noticed the difference straight away as I previously stated I am very happy with my bike and I love it but do you think I paid average price for this or did I over pay as I am new to this and the seller knew I was new to the motorbiking world.... I do have car license and HGV license but never thought about bike till this year.... I LOVE IT

I don't think you overpaid at all!  

I paid $1000 for my '98 with 13K miles on it BUT it needed some TLC.  The front fender was busted up, tach/speedo housing was broken, bad road rash on the muffler, faded and rusty exhaust, small dent in the tank, both sides of the engine were scratched up, forks and handlebars were bent slightly, the back tire was worn out and the engine needed a good cleaning.

If you covert what you paid into US dollars, it equals $1137 (according to google) so if ya think about it, you paid an extra $137 to have a really nice GS that isn't all banged up like mine was

900 British Pound Sterling equals to 1444.24 US Dollar so I basically paid $1500 USD for it im happy with it thanks for the information Wolf the only thing wrong with the bike is the tank has a very very very small paint scratch on the tank which is small and the rest of the bike is in mint condition the oil and filters was changed before I purchased it also the spark plugs and front fork seals and stuff I don't nknow about lol a few other things so im happy I wasn't ripped off !

Welcome! Gorgeous bike. GS is a sweet ride, ignore the lonesome bad review. You're gonna love it. My first street bike too and it has been great.. enough power to have fun and maybe even pop a few wheelies if you're feeling dumb..  Enjoy!

Welcome to all things motorcycles! More importantly, welcome to the forum! 
Don't regret the decision of buying the GS! It looks really clean and besides it being an awesome starter bike (I started on mine too) it has a huge/awesome following. It is easy to learn on (not just riding, wrenching too) and since it is simply built it is not hard to work on at all. Also, parts are super cheap and for the most part the parts have been unchanged since the '80s

Thanks Tekime for the welcome and I have already forgot about the bad reviews as there is too much positives to the very very few negatives, And no I wont be stupid and try to crank wheelies I am too lazy for that lol.

Thanks lynx124 for the welcome and I haven't regretted buying this bike I think its the best purchase that I have made in along time. I just cant wait till the 25th of this month to start my module 1 training and it means that I am that little bit closer to getting on my first bike

Also on that note does anyone recommend any good cameras out there to purchase at good value (In other words im a cheap skate lol) cause I want to be protected incase of any incidents !

I was just like you a few months ago looking for a camera lol. Get a GoPro, its worth the money. They just came out with the 4, so the 3+ should be cheaper now and thats what I have and its awesome. Best investment. HOWEVER, shaZam! gets expensive when ur buying accessories, so buy all aftermarket accessories, but do ur homework, u dont wanna ruin ur camera with a shitty accessory lmao.

Many ppl say that the GhostHD is better, and while its an awesome camera, its restricted for use in your helmet. As for the GoPro, I can take it with me anywhere and go diving with it and go on vacation, etc etc etc lol. It's a lot more versatile. And as far as the air drag of the gopro goes, its really not that noticeable lol

I was looking at a GoProHero3 white for around £149.99 but the GoProHero3+ is £229.99 is really worth spending the extra £80 for the + ??
