Hey everyone, looking for a little information. I'm starting my next bike search, and it's bringing me back to the GS side just for reliability's sake. Tired of riding stuff that doesn't work and costs a boat load to fix. Anyways, I'll be searching for an F model. Already had a naked '93, want to try the other side  :icon_twisted:\

What seems to be a fair price in your guys' eye for an 04+? I'm seeing prices all over the dang place and not sure what seems like price gouging!

The prices are going to vary...usually because of factors such as condition, tires,  mileage etc.

Dealers are going to have very high asking prices...they paid wholesale, and want full retail...private owners are going to ask somewhere less than retail....

You can negotiate anything.....Sometimes the seller is strapped for cash so they will take a low price for cash now..

To me, bikes that have been "modified" are worth far less than "stock"...I would not even consider a bike where the previous owner "rejetted" or modified intake or exhaust.  Repaint jobs lower the price too IMHO..

Project bikes are fun..but not cost effective in the long run.

Unless you are really strapped for cash, try to find the cleanest, lowest mileage bike, which needs no repairs....yes you're gonna pay a premium price...but really gs 500 is not all that much $$$$, even the new ones were reasonable cost....

Remember this saying...pay up front for a good bike and you only cry once....buy cheap and you cry and cry.

To answer more directly...nice F model..."around $2000"...maybe more, maybe less...

Kelly blue book:

GS500F 2004, retail price.....$2175

GS500F 2009, retail price.....$2900

GS500F 2009 Trade in value.....$1965

This is for nice bike with mileage as expected for the year.......

Sep 29 2004 Suzuki GS500 $2250 (Union City, NJ) pic map motorcycles/scooters - by owner

Sep 28 2004 Suzuki GS500 $2500 (Union City) pic map motorcycles/scooters - by owner

Sep 23 Suzuki GS500 GS 500 GS500F $2800 (Hopatcong) pic map motorcycles/scooters - by owner

Sep 4 Suzuki GS500 $3200 (Edgewater) pic motorcycles/scooters - by owner

Here's the GS500's available now in my area.........Note that all are asking a couple hundred OVER kelly blue book retail.   I figure the sellers are leaving some room for haggling...so you should be able to get any one of these for blue book retail or a couple hundred under that...

Again...if one of these checked out as to be really nice....and the owner didn't want to haggle much..I'd probably just pay the retail...only a hundred or two extra...and be done with it..

Wait a month or two  (until it's really cold or there is snow on the ground) and the prices will drop way down.  I always try to buy my bikes in Dec, Jan or Feb.

Where I live, prices stay pretty consistent... I'm near Tampa Florida

Thanks for the input so far guys. Looks like the biggest part of this whole search is going to be patience. That is, sadly, not one of my better qualities!

What I have noticed is that people selling think their stuff is made of gold and people buying want to buy it for nothing.

Sure, but the actual selling price typically falls right between "gold" and "shaZam!"

LOL!

I think it has something to do with socialism  :dunno_black:

But then again, I buy my  pharmaceuticals (prescription drugs) from Canada, at 1/3 the price of what it would be in USA...go figure?

Can we come up with a motorcycle smuggling scheme?  I'll buy em down here on the cheap, and you sell them up there for an obscene profit...?

BTW.. here in Jersey, it costs about $100 just to title a $500 motorcycle, and another $48 to register it, and $18 for the license (on top of the $40 for your car license) ....yet I can register a $100,000 airplane for $3 and a pilot license is issued for "free"...

Canada has a little bit of amnesia from when the currency was 60c USD.
Of course when I was in Canada I tried selling a GS or 2 and these were 89 and 90 bikes and in 98 with 30k and 3k miles I couldn't sell em for 1800 and 2500 (I think) - didn't help that they has 3 months of decent wam weather. Or that at that time the canada economy was pretty lousy.

Cool.

Let me know how to get in on that game!! My last order of insulin was $325 and that lasts me about 7-8 weeks!

Ok I'm dont thread jacking now...

I picked up a pretty cherry 2006 for $1800 in february in the middle of a snow storm. I'd have a hard time paying more than $2300 for one thats really nice.

If you aren't dead set on a GS, my brother will be selling a 13' Honda CB500F.  I was tempted to take it, but i'm going to stick with what I got.  He says it's an overall nicer bike than the GS.  Should be less than $2500

http://www.universaldrugstore.com/

This is an Internet prescription company based on Canada..they source their prescription drugs form various countries..

I get a prescription there which is about  $190 in USA...they charge about $70....

It is a "generic" but actually made by the same company, but in a foreign country...

There are a lot of prescription scams on the internet..so be careful

Look into it...I am happy with this deal..but I'd say buyer beware and you're on your own...

I ain't driving to Georgia for a bike. Lol.

I try to stick within an hour of the house north or south. So Wesley Chapel, Fort Myers, Orlando, Tampa, and anything before that. My truck gets a whopping 14mpg highway so it gets expensive fast!

Definitely not afraid to get dirty, I'm an auto mechanic for a living. If I buy something that doesn't need work, I won't know what to do with myself
