Up here in the frozen north it's not the temperature that's the issue, it's the tons (literally) of salt that gets dropped on the roads that keeps me off. Back in the UK I would ride in winter (well.  the British attempt at winter - 32 min) in just an extra sweatshirt and good quality gloves. Here where it gets to -25C and colder I wimp out and take the car! The times I do ride, though, I just use a windproof jacket, a full face helmet (year round that one), and a pair of textile over-trousers with jeans underneath, normal boots and heavier than normal gloves. Generally I'm having too much fun riding to notice the cold.
Back on bikes and loving it.
