A rear tire question

So I am replacing my rear tire...its worn in the center and is showing signs in the sidewall of age.  I have reviewed a lot of threads, GSJack's opinion page on Pablo's (http://pantablo500.tripod.com/id25.html), articles...etc.

So it comes down to this.  I am considering Battlax BT 45's and Pirelli Sport Demons in either the 140/70 or 130/70 size.  A thought I keep hearing is that the 140's look nice but do not handle any better (some say worse) than the 130/70 stock size tires.  I had considered the 140/80 size, but I am upgrading my rear shock and don't want to raise the bike any more than the Katana 600 spring will already raise it.  I am upgrading the front springs to 0.90 Sonic Springs in the next couple of weeks, too.

Cost between either tire brand is irrelevant at the moment ($121 v $118).  Oh, my front tire is a very fresh (under 1000 mile) stock sized BT.

So, who has an opinion on this matter?

I bought a set of Pirelli Diablo rosso II 110/70-17 and 140/70-17

also how much do you weigh? I'm about 170LBS with .85KG springs.
Right now the race techs are cheaper with shipping than sonic springs from what I could find.

The ractech has free shipping from everywhere. The sonic springs add another almost $20 for shipping.

In weigh about 200-205...I guess that explains the stiffness difference.

Thanks for the tip on the springs.  I'm gonna check that site out.

So you like the Perelli rosso II's?  Ever used the Bridgestone Battlax and can compare the two?

i had BT65R on my Hyosung GT650R and BT54R on my Hyosung GV650.

I can tell you they were very neutral handling, how ever wore in pretty quickly.
After that I went to Shinko Verge 011's which were great mileage but didn't grip like the BT56's.  I don't know about the  BT45's...

I just got the ROSSO II in the mail, i haven't installed them yet since my bike isn't done yet.

I have an issue with Shinko in general.... when they get warn, not like completely bald, but they got a good set of miles on them, they become usless.. I still swear to this day, that the reason for one of my spills on a motorcycle was because the shinko front tire. I applied my front brakes a little harder then normal after quite a long trip, almost home. because the guy infront of me slammed on his brakes. motorcycle should be able to stop a lot faster then a 1998 corolla... and the front tire slips out from under the bike, and down I went.. the roads where semi-wet, it had just rained for maybe 40-30 minutes before I got there. idk that day still confuses the hell out of me. and I still never remember actually seeing the corollas brake lights come on, but I did hit my head.  :dunno_black:

yea if you're using anything lower than the shinko 010 then they're all pretty terrible..

A recent post by GSJack said that his favorite combo was a rear Continental Conti Road Attack 2 150-70 17 and lasertec front or something. Just a thought.  :dunno_black:
I'll have no idea what piece you're referring to unless you include one of the following: Doobly doo, thing-a-ma-jigger, or dibbledy dop.

Panther, what about just replacing the rear with a stock sized Battleax for now? Being that the front is a stock BT, get a stock BT for the rear and then replace both with whatever type you'd like at the same time.

And Shinko tires do have their place IMO. I read a pretty good comparison on the GSResources between Shinko and Avon tires - while Shinko was definitely cheaper to purchase, they didn't last as long (or as well) as Avon tires do. That being said, I've had spare sets of wheels with Shinko tires mounted up "just in case" I needed them (flat tire, dodgy bearings, etc).

I ended up going stock BT.  I'm not sure if PO was honest about mileage on the rear tire when I bought it.  I will see for myself now.

I've used both, the BT45 and Sport Demon about twice each now. It could be entirely how I feel, but I feel like the BT45s don't wear as quickly, but I trust the Sport Demons a bit more in the twisties.

I will give them a shot for my next set, then.

Makes perfect sense. I'm on my second set of SD's now and love 'em to bits.

Ride it like a 2 stroke:
1: Rev high
2: Add oil
3: Repeat

The bt45s should be a harder compound than the SD so that makes sense.

Lasting longer but gripping less. I'm hoping these Rosso's last at least 7k
