I followed the link and both styles look good. Which one did you get? The cyclops or dooback? I have wanted bar ends on my bike for a while but still have not found any I can just throw on. I like these.

jangofett

Duh? I just looked at the title of your post and it says dooback. that answered my question. I believe I will order a pair of those right now. Say they went right on?

jangofett

Thanks for that post. I have been looking for a while. I ordered a pair. I can't wait to get them.

In the old thread Free pic hosting site there is a post which mentions http://www.imagestation.com.

The thread How do I post a pic? talks about http://dev.swforums.com.

And someone else mentioned http://www.uploadit.org as a place where you can upload pictures for no charge.

Be warned, My experience with bycicle bar ends is that don't last. I used a pyramid brand but I saw the ones you linked to and they didn't look any sturdier.
I still hate the stock mirrors and they are still sitting in my basement hidden in a bag where they belong.
Lately, I have been using a blind spot mirror I picked up at Pep boys for $2. Chimvee, built some simple little brackets that look easy to replicate out a piecs of L shaped metal. I have done at least 6000 miles with that set-up and nothing has broken or torn apart or fallen off like with bycicle mirrors.
I also saw on the Pashnit.com site has a little blurb under accessories about blind spot mirrors.

Blind Spot Mirrors
Another item I am convinced should be standard equipment on every bike.  At the very least- sportbikes.  I learned very quickly that in order to change lanes, I had to turn my head to the left or right. This takes a half second.   A half second I have to take my eyes off the road in front of me.  A half second too long.  A 2" round blind spot mirror for $1.99 from the local auto parts store solved this problem.  My head never moves from facing forward (except to drink in the wonderful scenery I'm riding past).  A quick eyeball glance to the right or left, and the lane change takes place in the half second it would take to move my helmeted head.  It does take a bit of practice to get used to looking at the blind spot mirror- judging distances, especially at night, and making the decision to change lanes (or identify the threat).  In rush hour traffic, boulevard traffic and while splitting lanes, these are invaluable little item.  I have lately seen cafe style  mirrors that are nothing more than a round concave blind spot mirror that attach to the end of the handlebar, very cool!  Another insightful blind spot mirror attaches to the helmet and is available from BugEyes.  Still another from Muth Mirror Systems has the turn signal built into the mirror itself.  Although the best yet was a pair spied at Laguna on a SpeedTriple.

In a former life, I was an avid bicyclist and worked in a bicycle shop in order to get the employee discount and pick up a few dollars on the side.  Zefal has a very good reputation for durability, and my personal experience with their products have been positive.  Pyramid products, on the other hand, didn't enjoy the same reputation.  Most of it originates from Tiawan or China, and it all looked cheezy to me.  Even when paying retail, quality products have always paid for themselves with durability and usefulness.  Dealers continue to stock Pyramid and similar quality products because it's closer in price to the crap available at Walmart.

I had Zefal bar end mirrors on my bike for a while, and they held up remarkably well, untill of course my sisters freind tipped my bike over in my garage. that was the end of them, but they wworked quite well. At high speed, sometimes they would fold in a little, but it was easily cured by rotating the mounting hardware.

They look great. Easy install sounds good. Thanks for getting the pictures up. Sounds like they will hold up as long as the bike is not tipped, which in that case would make for a bad day anyways.

AndyMC

jango when you go to install them dont do what i did and totally remove the bar end screw leaving the nut and bushing still in the bar   doh!  took me forever to get that stuff out

Thanks for the heads up on that! I'll let you know how it goes when I get them in and on.  :)

well i braved the cold this morning (38) and rode into work so i could test out the new mirrors so far they are working great the only time they vibrate at all is when i have my hand off the bar otherwise they are pretty solid the wind didnt shift them at all of course i only got up to 60 on the way into work it is so nice to look in a mirror and see what is behind me instead of just my shoulders and arms

Andy,

My doobacks came in today. My aftermarket lockhart philips bar ends did not work so I will need to get factory bar ends. My factory bar ends on my 93 were the type that screwed into the welded part in the bar so they are useless. I know that the gs's went to a different bar end in the later years. I will need to order the factory bar ends from bike bandit so I was wondering what year your bike is. You have the newer bar ends on yours and I will order that year as a guideline. Thanks!

AndyMC

jango  my bike is an 01 the bar ends are just pressure fitted and dont actually screw into the handle bar   let me know if you want me to take any pics of something......on another note the mirrors are working great so far they dont move out of position at speed and no vibrations at all with hands on the bars plus the fact that they fold in makes it easier to stick the bike in the garage without scrapin the bug.... :thumb:

Good, it is the 2001 bar ends that I ordered from Bike Bandit. My old bar ends were the type that were none-pressure fit. They screwed into a solid weld piece in the bar. I got new handlebars so all I need is the factory pressure type bar ends and I am set. Thanks for the info and I will let you know how it goes when I get the bar ends.

are bar ends mirrors better??...or is it just for looks?
