GS500f more upright seating position?

I know that the 1,25" handlebar riser pieces aren't going to give me enough rise to sit comfortably on the GS500F.

I would like to have the throttle about a 2" raise and 1" closer to me to 3" raise 2" closer to me.

I was thinking of these classic bars:

You think they will fit?
I'm a little afraid of the cables, and brake lines, that they won't be long enough...

I don't know about the bars but I'm almost certain that the brake lines and the cables aren't long enough for that much of a raise.

That is quite a bit of rise and sweep.  I assume you have already done this, but be sure to sit on the bike with both feet on the pegs and attempt to feel that riding position.  Significant changes to the rise and swept without changing your foot position will change your hip angle, the pressure on your knees, etc.  You might find that you will need to alter the pegs as well if you go much higher.  Also you will likely need to address your brake and clutch cable length.  Search the boards, longer cables can be found aftermarket.  Good luck, let us know how it turns out.  But any 7/8" bar will fit, but may not be a simple plug and play.

I put risers with set back 1 1/2"x1 1/2" if I remember right. I also put bars with more rise and pull back but can't remember the exact number I think the rise was 4". The seating position is upright. I am at the limit (maybe just slightly beyond) as the throttle increases just a little bit when the bars are turned all the way to the left.

If you go for too much rise and pull back you will need to change the cables.

I put the GenMar risers on my 97 and transferred them to my current 02, they move bars 1" up and 1 3/8" back.

The brake hose was OK after relocating it in the center bracket but that was about as far as I would go with the oem hose.  The engine would race at full right lock but was fixed by rerouting the choke hose behind left fork leg instead of in front.

Throttle cables and wiring were OK.

I think if the handlebars where more narrow, there would be more rise possible.
even at 80mph, with the wind pushing my body, i still feel a forward pull (not backward).
the wind screen really helps a lot!
I've looked around, and the 1"rise and .25" tilt backwards riserpiece costs a ridiculous +$100!
i found some straight, 1" riser pieces for $33, but if a new handlebar could cost me that much, with more rise, i wonder why not change it?

I have the stock handlebars of the 2004 model,
the 2005 model and up, has a more sporty looking one.
I slightly tilted it, giving more, but still not enough raise.

Are there any places where stock bars can be bent, to get more of a u-shape on the bars?

(I have the older stock handlebars on them, 2004, not the 2005+)

I got those risers for $45 on Ebay...I was wrong on the size a bit when I went back and found them.
