Damper rod bolt not 8mm!!!!!!!

Hey guys,
Has anyone come across the fork damper rod allen head bolts not being 8mm?
In the process of changing my seals and had to stop at cracking off the damper bolt as the 8mm allen socket i purchased specifically for the job didn't fit, so i dug out all my metric allen keys to find the bolt must be 7mm a quick google apparently thats 9/32 in old money,
Yet all the threads and tutorials i have come across have stated 8mm, so im kind of pissed, my bikes a 03plate but i cant yet confirm if the forks are stock or not.
Has anyone else come across this or am i just unlucky and a po has at some point changed the bolts?

Both of mine were 8 mm, just checked the tool I bought to do them.

Reckon someone previous to you has changed/lost original bolts and used different ones eh?!
