Just a minor warning- if you use this method please remember it changes the timing mark point read point.REMEMBER THIS if you need to check the valvegear timing

The ignition cover is a DIY option?!
Do tell... (links please!)

I'm not sure he intended to include the cover as DIY.I too am interested?

On this subject,i just thought of something- why cant we make a lower profile ,more modern looking one in high temp thermoplastic?

I've covered mine with a vinyl overlay in a carbon fibre pattern. Hides the scratches!

That's a good idea. I actually have some high quality 3M 'carbon look' vinyl around here....somewhere.

I was referring to both, actually - for those with access to aluminum stock and a CNC, which a few members do. Chuck81 does them ( http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=63036.msg742845#msg742845 ).

I seem to remember a thread about the measurements needed to make one's own in some thread or another (you'll probably have better luck using "side cover" instead of "plate", I'd wager).

As for thermoplastic, I'd much rather have my ignition protected by something a bit more resilient, and I would think it couldn't be much more low profile than it is. Feel free to prove that assumption wrong, however.  :technical:

As stated, always good to have someone else with the ability/know-how. As they tend to go, one person will have them/getting ready to cook up a new batch while somebody else is out/has higher priorities at a given moment.
