Hey guys, been awhile since I've been on here. Sold my GS500 to a friend last year and I picked up a new '14 FZ09.

Someone contacted me through reddit.com/r/motorcycles saying they were trying to register as a member here but his submission has been sitting idle since 12/3. If there are any mods that see this post and could approve his application or whatever, his screenname is WinterHack. This post can be locked/deleted then.

Have a nice Holiday season guys!

How's the fz09 treating you? We which mode are you riding it in. It seems a great bike!

Oh hey Srin! How's it hangin man? The ole GS with the Wileyco pipe and your custom slipon kit is still running pretty good. I just helped my friend sand down and repaint the pipes for the millionth time ;). Gosh I can't believe I've been on this board for TEN YEARS...

The bike is awesome. Most days I ride it in STD mode but on occasion I flip over to A for a little extra fun! It RIPS and is just as flickable as the GS I learned on. I can definitely recommend it to anyone on the fence. The FZ07 is a better option for someone who prefers a twin. I kinda regret not giving it a closer look before making the purchase. Oh well!

I had the same issue when trying to register here a few weeks back.
I ended up sending the site admin an email and he approved me.
There really needs to be a "help" email address available for those trying to register.

Glad to hear you're liking your FZ. I heard they have fueling issues, but that's easy enough to fix with a remap.
If I was buying a new bike today, it would be the FZ-07, no question.
By all accounts they're about 80% the fun of an 09, with none of its issues and a much lower price.

Yes, after the ECU flash, adding a slip on, and an EJK fuel controller, the only throttle issues I have are inherent to Fuel Injection itself. As for the money? The 09 is only $1k more. Hard to give up all the extra HP and another cylinder for only $1k. But hey, HP doesn't exactly = fun. Any GS500 rider should know that by now;)

Oh BTW, is Kerry's valve shim kit still floating around by any chance>?

Really? Wow, I thought it was several K difference. Still, I've done the big bike-big power thing. These days, the idea of 50+ mpg in a light, easy to work on bike appeals to me.
Obviously, since I bought a GS, right? Modern tech aside, the FZ-07 seems to tick many of the same boxes as the GS, just much newer, more complex, more expensive...
Now that I think about it, maybe I'll hang onto my GS a bit longer.... lol

weaselnoze

complex is right...there has to be something said for knowing all the in's and out's of the GS without having to hook it up to a computer. Luckily I still can help out wrenching on my old GS whenever I feel like rebuilding carbs or doing a valve adjustment haha

Unfortunately those valve kits floating around disappeared maybe 2 years ago or so... not long before I joined - figures...

It'd be worth noting that we've discovered you should only use OEM shims.  We have had quite a few members show up with broken shims, all using K&L or otherwise unknown.  Needless to say, those broken shims score the mess out the interior and make for a rebuild or engine replacement quick.
