don't you just love photobucket, all the new photos went on my album randomly and some wont post. Anyway port shots are ment to be before and after , may try some again as the exhaust shots look good . Off for a shower now as its Hot Rod club night.

spent this morning making a degree wheel and slotting the bolt holes in the cam sprockets. thought it might be hard to slot the holes but the 6mm parallel tungsten tip in my die grinder made short work of it.Had to trim the lock tabs as they hit the plastic anti rattle pads on the sprocket. Now just need to refit cams and set timing when Dan can give a hand. The next weekend we are off drag racing the beetle so might be a while before its done. Rolling road next!!!!!

How did you lower the front forks, just cut the springs?
I hope the cams are balanced or that head ain't gonna last too many runs i wouldn't think.
Those welds dont look very safe. What speeds are you hoping to do with this beast?
That is one scary looking ride, i wouldn't ride it and i'm crazy stupid. I hope all goes well.

No matter what i do to it, it's still a GS
It's not how fast your bike is, it's how long you are prepared to hold the throttle on.

forks shortened 4" and threads recut in top(by machine shop)then spacer tube shortened as well.As to the welds AGAIN they look bad as the wire speed was playing up but they have good penetration, I know because I blew a few holes .
as to et and speed we hope for low 14s or better just over 100mph.
Our Dan will be riding (my youngest) we put a Honda 350 twin in his old junior frame  (that I built) and that went 14.2 and was much the same size but with a chrome moly frame 1/14" dia so not as stiff as this one. This is the 4th bike I have built for him from scratch, first when he was 10 and now he's 25.

Cool, i was worried that the fork springs had just been cut and lowered. You obviously know what you are doing.
I'm extremely interested it the porting job you did. Did you just clean up the inlets or did you remove quite a bit of metal? It's hard to tell from the pics. Did you polish the exhaust ports? I already have the fastest gs in melbourne (well i think it is, no one else can keep up with me) but i still want it quicker. Can you provide some more info on the port job?
The bike does look great by the way, if not scary.

we are using 38mm carbs, maybe a bit big but they were £20 for set of 4 .This is a budget build, anyway had to make inlet manifolds to match so ports are opened up to 38 and then flowed into valve and yes that's a lot of material removed. the exhausts are done much the same as the pipe is the same id as the old pipes od and then blended . I used the same method as our beetle heads ,polish the bottom of the port and open the top blending the valve guide boss . This effectivly raises the port . Now you must remember this is for drag racing so its set for wide open throttle , with the air shift you don't lift for gear changes so part throttle response isn't important ie loss of low end torque . Bigger cams would work well but budget wont stretch as well as a bigger bore. AS for scary its just a "normal" drag setup and will be at home with the rest of the tube framed bikes,we will be happy if it make 50+hp

That thing looks pretty awesome. Do you have any videos/audio of it?

dan the man

It took me days to post the pics so we will see if Dan can get video off his phone (would be nice).
Hold up in testing as Dan has a First Responder course over both the next 2 test and tune week ends so that only leaves the last (Halloween) meet to check it out.

dan the man

well its been a long winter , the bike never got to the track as Dan was doing a First Responder course(first on scene before Paramedic/ambulance) and the training weekends clashed with the race dates. So today reset the intake cam timing (woops it was a tooth out) but then the battery was completely flat due to the ign switch getting knocked on under the cover. Only had an hour so not enough time , have a day off this week so will be fixed then.

When you hoping to take it to a track now?
'08 GS500F: Fairings removed, MT-03 headlight, Integrated tail light, Brisk BR12ZC plugs, chuck81's Billet Fork Brace.

dans taking his full bike test in April so when he passes he wont need a race licence to run wot you brung. He has an R1 that he has taken down the strip,11.2 @135 so the gs will be slower but more fun as it should launch ,R1 just wheelies  like a Buddha Loves You!!!!!! Should be the middle of May , need to make a bike trailer as well.
