P.A.I.R System and help identifying part

So I did a valve check today. (Everything in spec)  :thumb: And I noticed that the PAIR system is gone. (I wanted to do that anyways) So I have a couple questions. There is one tube that is blocked off but has a hole punched in it. Not sure if that was from the PAIR system. Also, where that PAIR system enters the head by the exhausts, it looks like there is block off plates but they have holes in them... So does this fully delete the PAIR system or not? Just curious because it seems weird.

The part that I can't identify looks like an air filter almost. Not sure. But it looks old and crumbly and in need of replacement for whatever it is. If someone could identify it (circled in red) and tell me what the function is, that would be awesome! Thanks!

it looks like some of your lines are mixed up , and the block off plates should have no holes in them , with bike running do you notice air coming out from that hole ? picture #4

I've never really noticed them. Next time I start her up I'll feel of air comes out. Where could that fitting go to?

Okay. Ill take a look. Is it possible that the empty fitting hooked up to the pair system?

yes  , ok  it looks like  the hoses are hooked up to the top of the carbs (sideways) , so  some of the lines are hooked up wrong ,  its  very tricky  ,  when I cleaned my carbs  I marked everthing (color paint)  do you still have the gas tank off ?

I am thinking ,  there was no drilled and taped holes for the steel hoses  that bolt to the engine ,  there is two places  on the engine  (side by side )

get some more photos of the exhaust side  #4 picture  to see if you have the same thing  under the header pipe  (side by side )

air is injected into the exhaust to help the clean burning , ( on mine ) (2007 gs500f)  I have two areas  with two steel tubes (one on each side)  (side by side)

ok  I see  on the left side  of frame , you do not have  a   2nd valve assy. , there is two holes  on the frame (empty holes )  where this bolts two if you have a california motorcycle ,  2nd valve assy. has  four  hoses ,  best I can say is google   bike bandit  , and look at  the  enlarged views , shows how to hook-up  everything  on  most  all year models .  or maybe your dealer in your area has all the diagrams  on   the complete  emission  system  .

PAIR system missing?

Nah...it was never there to start with.

rainbballer17

I'm glad it's gone, it just doesn't seem like those block off plates really do anything  :dunno_black:

The ports have been roughly cast but they haven't been finished machined along with the tapped holes that should hold the PAIR pipes and their flanges in place on the cylinder.

Your bike has never had the PAIR system fitted but does have the evaporative control system fitted and the black cylinder in the pic is the charcoal filter that absorbs fuel fumes.

rainbballer17

Okay so is there anything I need to do or is it fine? And thanks both of you for your help!
