Hey GSers! I bought a new bike and need to sell my sweet GS! What kind of price should I be asking? In the pics it has the ugly purple decals. They have been removed and tank is being repainted GS black. 8k miles. I spent the last weeks of winter performing all needed maintenance. I would ride this bike to California. It is a TRUE turnkey. So, what is a fair asking price?

- New EBC HH brakes and fluid
-New DID chain and Sunstar 16t sprocket
-Fresh oil change
-F16 touring windscreen
-GPR exhaust (includes baffle/db killer)
-KN air filter (includes cleaning kit)
-Just performed valve check/adjustment (9 assorted shims included)
-Manual

Clean, runs superbly and sounds awesome

year, mileage, condition?  Repaint to me is a red flag...so is custom exhaust...

But a good solid older bike in good running condition can sell easily...if you don't ask crazy too high prices..

If I were looking...I'd be a buyer at $1500...maybe go as high as $1800....

I'm looking at 2009's in perfect condition with under 5000 miles in the $2500 range...

Look at NADA on the Inernet or Kelly Blue book...

Search craigslist  in you area and many other areas for comps....(remember craigslist is ASKING price not SELLING price)

Advertize on craigslist with fairly high asking price...you can always negotiate down...

Cast out the bait and see what bites!

I have a GS for sale at the moment too.

Personally I hate selling stuff. Especially on Craigslist. I swear all the losers of the world show up there to buy stuff. Way too many people wasting my time. Not to mention the scam emails/text/phone calls that you have to deal with.. No i wont hold it until your "Shipper" arrives to pick it up...
Then you had the idiots that want to trade you their crap: a 1997 ninja, a dodge stratus (needs work), or a 5 year old mac book. More waste of my time answering these people. I even list in the ad NO TRADES.
This week alone I entertained 10 calls, emails, or texts. 3 made plans to come look at it, not a one showed up. People in general suck, and the scum on craigslist is the worst! haha. <- Funny thing i buy most of my stuff on CL too)

Good luck selling.
I listed my 2006 (14,000mi bike, 3k mi on new engine, great shape) for 2150.00 figures someone could haggle me down to 2000ish and I could make a sale.
NEVER EVER EVER use an aftermarket valve shim!!

Condition is very good. 8,000 miles. I do have the stock exhaust to go with the bike, if the buyer wants it. Actually, I was thinking of asking 1800 on CL, with the hope of getting 1500-1600.

Also, I removed the LED turn signals and replaced the stock signals. But, shortened the rear signals. I think they look better than aftermarket.

People like stock, put the original pipes back on and sell the aftermarket one separately.

I think you're about right on your prices

price is low by Florida standards... but unless you want someone to sell their kidney for your bike, seems fair to me.

It's a '93. Although, people don't believe me at first when I tell them it's 21 year old bike.  :thumb:

Sledge- the stock pipe would have to be welded back on. I don't feel like putting the effort into it just to sell it. Besides, that GPR exhaust is AWESOME!

Just sell "as is".....no problems with that...fancy exhaust will be a selling point for some buyers.

A 21 22 year old bike, that is not bone stock, less than this... http://www.kbb.com/motorcycles/suzuki/gs500e/1993-suzuki-gs500e/suggestedretailvalue/ Add On goodies do nothing to increase the value, quite the opposite...they are a take away. I have been buying and selling bikes since 1968, I am just under the 30 bike mark right now.  Anything above $1000 consider yourself lucky. Unless they have been replaced any rubber seal is 21 22 years old, you can shine it up all you want, it is still a 21 22 year old repainted, modified bike.

EDIT: It looks good, somebody will want it  :thumb:

One of my favorite sayings:

"Sometimes you gotta come to grips with the harsh reality of the situation."

Looks like about $1K is it!

(But you can still ask high!  All they can say is "no".  You can always come down!

I bought a 2006 in March of 2013 for 2200 with only 200 miles. Put around 5000 miles on it laid it down converted to naked and sold it on clist for 2300 in March of 2014 if that's any help.

If that was up for a private sale in the UK I would expect £750 and take maybe £700 tops, the buyer would expect a years MOT with it, no fluid leaks or obvious faults and not have to replace tyres brakes sprockets etc in the near future

That's about $1100.......go figure  :thumb:

People always think their bikes are as desirable to others as they are to them............they aren't!

Come to Montreal, you will get 2 to 3 k. We really get screwed over here.

Depends how many other GSs are listed when you post yours.  New riders have a strong preference for later model years.  I think most will happily spend $2000 on a 2006 vs spending $1600 on a 1993.  That was pretty much the spread when I picked up my GS in October 2014.  I offered $1000 on a couple that were 1993-1996 and the sellers declined.  Turned out picked up a 2006 with dirty carbs and only 2700 miles for $1100.  But that was during the end of season sell off in my area so your experience might be different.

If I ever found myself in the position where I had to sell my 2006 GS500F, I would probably ask for nothing less than...

your first born.  :)
