gs500 chain type and where to buy online.

Hey I'm do for a chain / sprocket replacement and have already purchased my sprockets, they are stock 16t and 39t and am looking for a chain now.

According to the haynes manual it says "Warning NEVER install a drive chain which uses a clip-type master (split) link." Of course this limits my selection but I have never bought a chain before and do not know what to look for. I see chain but they have clips etc, and the manual says to use a "endless" chain or with a rivet.

Now where can I find said chain, "preferably amazon" which fits a 2007 gs500f and also to have the proper tools to install said chain, (110 link for stock pref).
~I have gone through too many websites and chains I have no idea right now.

I just put a new chain on myself. After getting suggestions from this forum, I bought the DID 520VX2. It cost me about a hundred bucks from motorcycle superstore. It seems to be a really quality made chain that will last. It does have the clip type master link, but after hearing everyone's thoughts on here, it's not a problem. Search through the threads on here for the post I made when asking the same question. Twocool used aircraft safety wire on his and that seems to be a brilliant idea. There are pics on the thread of what it looks like. Good luck!!

I bought an EK x-ring chain with a screw on type master link. Best chain I've used to fare, 2.5 years and only adjusted 3 times

5k miles on a clip-type master link. o-ringed chain. no problems the o-rings just were gone/bad. got a non-o-ring chain with clip type on there now.. we'll see how this one fairs. Got this one from D2moto.

I've only used clip type master links on the 9 replacement chains on my 2 GS500s.  About 140k miles with the clip type links, total of 180k GS miles minus about 40k for the 2 oem chains that were continuous type.  Used mostly DID o-ring replacement chains. 

Also used clip type master links on my 3 previous Hondas that had chains, CB400T, CB750K, and CM400A.  My CB650SC had a shaft drive.  If you don't use a name brand chain like the DID oem make sure the one you get is quad staked and has solid rollers and bushings.

The DID o-ring chains I used were bought from Chapparral at a good price but they went way up since.  Last chain I bought was a Parts Unlimited from Dennis Kirk for $58 but they are $65 now, Japanese made by major maker but I forget which one it is now but it's  holding up as good as the DID ones did, clip type connecting link.

Those $40 Volar chains on the Amazon link seem to have the right specs but I don't know anything about them, maybe someone else has tried them?  Cheap chains can be a disaster in the making.

I have 3k miles on a racing chain, 520; and I haven't even begun to use it!
Bought it on AMazon for $50.
It does it's job.
No problems with the link, as long as it's installed correctly.
Most of the problems with those links are when you don't have the tools to press the master link together, and the clip doesn't go in the slot.

I use a chain breaker, to press the master link together. Gripper pliers (or other pliers) don't work.
The problem is that the master link needs to be inserted with the chain already over the front sprocket; which makes it hard (or impossible) to use a hammer to hammer the link together.

A chain breaker works both in removing, as well as inserting chain pins.
If you don't like a chain with a master link, you can always get one with +2 links, and use a chain breaker to press out a pin, and use it to link the chain together.
