So all this started about a week ago.

When i would turn off my bike, the trailtech vapor would go blank, having reset everything when i turned the bike on again. sometimes after a long drive, it wouldnt die on me straight away when i turned the bike off, but then it would still forget later.

Today i swapped the battery of the unit (it's a CR2032, quite common) and it all seemed to have worked! Great!
However, the moment i drove off, the speedo would go for massive speeds (like 600 Km/h)
Offcourse i did try to change te tiresize in the config, but it won't remember my settings. I changed the tiresize a lot, but when i directly go back to check on the setting, it had changed back to 5300 (or something like that)

Anyone have a Trailtech vapor? Anyone have any idea wtf is going on here :(

My engine and battery are from a 1999 GS 500. Frame is a freshly powdercoated 1993

I dont think this matters though, Because it has worked nicely (accept the tachometer :p) for about half a year.

I did inform Trailtech of my prior error (that it would die on me, when i turn off the bike.) And they actually did respond on that problemn yesterday eve.

Im still waiting for a response on my second question. (the one that i can't change some settings.)

#5
I did some searching and found a couple of topics where others have had the same problem. none of the topics explained how it was fixed, or even if it was at all.
Both temp and tire size are set to 5535, and can't be changed.

Very annoying :(

Don't know trailtech stuff. .. but the battery/memory thing prompts thoughts of the older computer motherboards... every once in a while you had to change the battery on the board for the bios memory function or something...., and sometimes you had to move a jumper block across two pins to 'reset' the thing to realise you had a fresh battery and/or prompt a setting refresh/reset. ....

Wonder if it's something like that?

Thats funny. :p I work in IT, and was wondering the same thing. It's as if CMOS isnt functioning right, or hasnt been cleared properly to be rewritten.

I could take the battery out for 10 minutes, then reconnect it, see if that changes anything.

At the least you will be investigating/providing info for those who follow later on!

Krav

I sure will! Yesterday i received 2 documents about how to perform an ODO reset and a Master reset.
Ill be trying those out today, and if they or one of them works, ill post them here.

Okay,

The problem:
I have a Trailtech Vapor, and at some point i couldnt change it from 5535. It just wouldnt remember my config. The same goes for m temp. meters high and max. They were stuck at 5535

The solution
Master reset:

This will reset all of you information and settings in the unit so make sure you write all of this info down before you perform the reset.

Press and hold all three buttons down for three seconds to enter the data setting mode. Once there using the mode button progress to the tire size. At the tire size enter 9110 using the left and right had buttons to increment the digits. Immediately after entering the new tire size press and hold the right hand button down for three second. This should move to a screen with ( 12HR or 24HR ) flashing on it. As soon as this is displayed you will want to hold down the right hand button again after about five seconds RESET will display on the screen. All you have to do is not press any of the buttons and then the unit will reset. Next all of the LCD segments will light up and then all you will have to do is press the mode button and you will be back at the main screen.
