Electrical issues...

I don't even know where to start. My heated grips work fine, but I turn my key and nothing at all does anything. The fuse is fine (unless there's another fuse somewhere?)...

Where do I start?

I've stuck my multimeter into the wires coming out of the ignition barrel and turning the key SEEMS to change it from no continuity to continuity, so I think that works...

(Start with the easy access things below and work to the more fiddly)

Fuse... not the one in plain view? That's the spare.  The one under the cover next to that?..
Clutch safety switch and wires?

Sidestand safety switch etc?

Both cables onto battery solid connection? No wiggly bits?

Other end of earth cable also solid connection and no corrosion or movement?

Starter button continuity?

Big red switch in correct position and wires ok?

..

Have you done work to bike lately and disturbed any harness wires/connectors under tank area? .. location of work could have the issue nearby?

.... there's a start! :thumb:

Thanks for that. The fuse was under a plastic cap (which I broke while removing it...). That's the only fuse I could find...

But the rest of your list, I will try tomorrow. :)

Well get yourself a spare fuse and keep it in the spare holder or secured to bike with a mini cable tie or something..... fuses are somewhat rare to blow on this bike from what I've read on the board... but them pesky things always seem to go 'at midnight on a cold windswept backroad 50 miles from anywhere!' Lol

There are better bike electrics people on here than me.... they might help some too.....

But best thing I can also suggest is.....

When checking stuff, don't rush it! .. take your time and test one thing at a time.... discount or isolate each item from your 'list' and then move to next one. ...

You said you have a multimeter that you used.... which implies to me that you know how to use it and also the benefits of single circuit tests! :thumb: ... but I like to mention it anyway cos some just end up with a bucket of parts and no solution!

having the same issue here ... dont know if my heated grips still work (dont care for the heated grips when my bike isnt working)

but my starter seems to have a botch job in place and i cant actually find the fuse ... i can find where it should be (small plastic plate with FUSE on it ) but when i open it up its just 2 screws and a bit of wire between thempnerwx

I'm also having electrical issues and am checking my whole system. I just want to check one thing re: the safety cutouts, - am I right in saying that if the starter turns the motor over ok, (but there s no spark at the plugs), that these cutouts aren't the problem?
I.e if there is anything wrong with these safety cutouts and related diode it will stop the starter motor working regardless of the ignition spark at the plugs?
Beam me up Scottie....
