Fuel tank

A little while ago when opening the fuel tank to fill with fuel I noticed that the spring it normally has putting the key back to its normal position does not happen anymore. Is there a spring in there that could of snapped?

Could be crudded up? ... maybe a shot of brake cleaner in the keyhole? Not into the tank!

So the key goes in fine unlocks the cap but the key stays turned as where it used to spring back to the key being  straight pointing towards the front of the bike.
