What measurements do you set your floats to. I've been running really rich lately and I need to know the float height measurement for a 97 gs500e. I hear that the stock measurement isn't the best
Can someone tell me the general height for gs500 carb floats?

Iarn

I can't give you an exact number, but I did find this thread for you.

Try the information therein out, and once you think you have a baseline, fiddle with it if you find it needs more adjusting. Hopefully someone will come along with more concrete information.

factory spec float height is fine. If running rich it is probably the jetting.

X-ray

Have you heard of/searched for "clear tube method?"
'93 gs500 w/ Red Oxide primer paint job. Hasn't been on the road in years but wrenching on it is my escape.

newbie1993

That method is for checking float height, not adjusting it

Iarn

Well, what is your height at now? Is it within spec?

newbie1993

Definitely not in spec.  My bike was running really rich and flooded the entire air box with gas

Ahh, see running rich and flooding the airbox are different things, but yeah,  I know what you mean. Stock setting on the floats should do ya, just remember to inspect the integrity of all your little bits (the needle, the o-ring on the thing the needle goes into, etc.) to make sure that you fix it once and for all
I'll have no idea what piece you're referring to unless you include one of the following: Doobly doo, thing-a-ma-jigger, or dibbledy dop.
