Almost lost the tiny o-ring for the carb top-cover!

Yesterday as I was putting the carbs back together after cleaning, I noticed there was some gunk on the inside of one of the plastic covers that hold the springs down, so I picked it up and wiped out the gunk with a shop cloth. A minute later, as I began to seat the plastic cover onto the carb, get the spring sitting nicely, etc., I was horrified to see that the o-ring was gone! Ran for a flashlight and found it on the ground near my feet. Felt so lucky. If it had rolled somewhere or bounced out of sight, I could have been looking for it for who knows how long.

Lucky you :p altough, a complete oringset of 20 different rings will set you back like 10 dollars, so it wouldnt have been that much of a disaster.

Just curious, is this topic going to be a build topic or something? Else i think these kinds of stories should be placed in the odd's and ends section of the forum, or general gs500 discussion maybe.

Hmm, that makes sense. Maybe a mod can move it there. Otherwise we'll just have to wait for it to drop off the page.

But...what is this "complete oring set of 20 different rings?" Wouldn't they be, like exotic metric stuff? I got the wrong crush washer from the Suzuki dealership a few weeks ago and it was impossible to find anything similar anywhere else. I wound up sticking a copper washer on instead (AutoZone describes it as an "oil plug gasket"). Is there a GS-specific o-ring set?

Well, you have got carb. revision kits. those oftenly have such a small o-ring in them.
