Throttle cables too long after clip ons

Hello everyone,
So heres my situation.. i have a 04 gs500f that i am converting into a street fighter style bike. So i found a 99 gs500 with clip ons already on it that was a parts bike. I completely replace the from end assembly (bear with me i'm a car guy) with the fork or tree with the caliper, wheel and all. I had to resuse all the cables and switches. So here comes the problem. i realized that the throttle cable and return cable is too long.. the throttle would stay stuck at whatever position i let go off. clutch, brakes, all of those are fine. I seen the 99 gs500 bike only had one cable which was the throttle and no return.

So i've looked everywhere and can not find a solution to what i need to do. Where do find shorter cable that fit? what has anyone else done? i mean i seen so many people done the mod but no one seem to be having this problem. Please help.

So I've done more research since my last post and still cant find anything useful except try to re route it but not so it would bind.. Also i forogt to mention it is mount on the forks below the trees? So I'm guessing its really low. Does anyone know anything that can help me? This is my first bike and i know not much about these things.
Well im heading back to the shop n trying again for an hour to reroute it if not im installing my old ones back which are slightly bent from the last guy i bought it from..

I wish I had some advice... I hope someone helps out soon because that setup sounds pretty neat (how low they are) and I would hate for you to re-install bent bars  :icon_sad:

Give it a lil bit more time, things have been a bit slow around here I think due to outside projects, nice weather, etc.

Anyway though, welcome to the forum!  :D  Maybe also you could start up a project thread and show us some pics of your conversion to street fighter!

I think the easiest would be to order the cables for an 89' model. They are still available from various vendors.

Update

Hey fellas,
So i did it! After long hours of messing around with the cables i found out all i had to  do was adjust the throttle and the return by the bar. 😁 she's on the road again!
I'll take some pics how she looks later or 2moro. An yea, I'm leaning over alot and kinda tucked in.
Im looking for some nice headlights now cause the parts one is using rubber straps so i might have to get my friend who is a fabricator to whip something up nice.

So the run down on this dirty girl is really dirty. She got leaks here and there and the one that concerns me is the one that keeps my shifter oily. Im guessing it's a shifter seal? Shes been dropped and hit.. Right side frame is banged up n shaZam! welded. My buddy will fix that. Sbe had 150wide tires in the rear before from the idiot i bought it from. Made the rear caliper n mounting bracket all mangled.and wires are all oved thd place but not too bad.
Well I got her for a grand so i guess that cant be beat right? I'm in Massachusetts so idk how the market is everywhere else.

I got a tank that looks nice but got rust all on the inside that's like all ugly and my cowork (we are auto mechanics) and he told me it's not saveable, any1 tired to do it and worked or should i just take the hit..

Anyways,  thanks guys! I'm not very fourm savvy but I'll make some kind of build/project thread thing and keep y'all posted.

Where is a good and reliable place/site where I can get parts for our bikes? I see few sites but i rather hear it from you guys who actually had interactions with.

P. S. Why is the verification so hard to see and aggravating 😑

Dirty girls I like  ;)  Haha that's how my bike was when I got it... scratches, cracks, dents, leaks... but that's about all taken care of now  :icon_mrgreen:

You can get lots of parts right here on the forum in the buy/sell/wanted section.  I have also gotten parts from eBay and Motosport.com... I think amazon has some good prices as well and I have read that others here like Bikebandit.com and RonAyers.com

The verification is tricky to keep out spammers but don't worry, that all goes away after your first five posts I believe  :thumb:
