Hey there,

I was recommended to come here for help on my 2007 Gs500F

So starting up the bike, I place the choke all the way on (Towards me) in neutral and the RPMs shoot up to about 6-7k.
15 - 30 seconds and then close it. Then idle sits around 1k flat and sometimes feels like it's going to stall. (Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't). The friction zone also doesn't have the pull that bikes i've been on before does. But place the choke on about half way, in 1st gear, and release the clutch into the friction zone and the bike has that little bit of pull so you know you've hit it. Dunno if that's normal or not.
Maybe someone can help me out.

Warm idle sounds low. Have you done any work on the bike? What happens if you set warm idle to, say, a touch above 1500?

nuclearfenix

I haven't done any work on it. I actually just bought it about 4 weeks ago and my first GS500F. I have yet to find/look for the idle screw

Idle screw... sticks straight down under carbs... normally seen protruding out a bit... whitish plastic knob!.... you can adjust it bare handed if the engine is warm/hot IF YOU ARE CAREFUL! ... :thumb:

Thanks, I'll see if I can adjust it when I get a chance. But as long as this all is normal, i'm not too concerned.

I'll let you know the results.

Try slowly lowering the choke, sounds like your treating it like a light switch, ON/OFF?  These are cold blooded bikes even when new, maybe leave the choke on a bit longer  :dunno_black:

What he said.

Once the bikes warms up, (which it should definitely be by 6k), lower the choke only until it rests around 1500. Keep doing that until you can idle near just under the 1500 hash mark with the choke all the way off.

But, yeah, seems like you need to adjust the idle screw.

Did we ever establish a "correct", systematic idle adjust screw procedure?

Oh, and welcome, Nuclearfenix.
