Handlebar clamp bolts rusty

Has anyone successfully removed surface rust from the four handlebar clamp bolt heads with something simple (say, cola and tin foil)? I've found replacement bolt caps but want to clean up the bolts, then maybe spray a light coat of something hydrophobic, before putting the bolt caps on. Is there an easy way to remove the rust "spots"?

Be aware, this is not very wise advise!

I'm with Slack.  They are probably cheap enough, remove one and take it to the local hardware store to match it.  I'd go stainless.

If not, a wire wheel is always a good option.  Whatever you do, a touch of paint will help them stay rust free.

I ended up using Aero Kroil. I let it soak, then with a plastic brush I removed the surface rust. I then wiped it clean, and re-applied the Aero Kroil oil into the cavity of the bolt. It claims to prevent rust and not harm metal, so coating the surface should do no harm. I then replaced the bolt caps (the round caps that prevent one from seeing the allen head surface of the bolts when looking down onto the bar clamp).

Thanks guys!
