So i'm back to my original problem.

07' GS500F

But now I can confirm the carbs are stupid clean and battery is good. Essentially the bike has a hard time starting up, I need to turn the primer on and the choke fully on, everytime I start.

When it does start up the RPMs shoot up, even when I do turn off the choke and primer. They stick at 6k rpm. After this I turned the bike off, changed the idle very slightly and started the bike and it would go up to 2k(or 1.5k) then it would die even if I tried to rev it up it would die almost immediately.

If I can't figure it out I think my best bet may be to take it to a shop which I was trying to avoid.

Maybe someone here has encountered this problem.

Have you tried disconnecting the throttle cable from the carbs yet? Sometimes a sticky cable can cause issues....but not killing the motor.

What about the valves? Checked them yet?

Yeah, I disconnected everything from the bike. Including the throttle cables.
And I completely cleaned out the valves on the carbs.

Oh! Not the butterfly valves, the valve shim clearances on top of the camshafts...

I'm gonna be real. I'm new to bikes and all, so do you have a picture or diagram as to where those are?

EDIT:

Btw, this problem started randomly. Not when riding, but the next day. I had only ridden it about 5 mins the day before.

Ah thanks. I take a look at it tomorrow morning and report back what I find.

Edit: So it seems the 6k rpm is fixed when I messed around with one of the vacuum connections. But now the bike only starts with choke on, it backfires, and smoke is coming from the exhaust and carbs. It's above my head so I called a shop and explained the problem. They quoted 270 + Parts. I think i may have to go down that road.
