please help!!!

Ok, so im a first time builder and i got myself a gs550, the frame is an 850 thats been hardtailed and bobbed out... and the rest, well.... its a rat ride. But thus far ive gotten my bike wired completly. Stater, ecu, ignition, fuses starter, starter relay, coils and if i missed anything you vsn bet thats wired too. I love this bike but ive run into a strange issue that i cant explain. I can start the bike, it runs it will even idle for as long as i want as well as go into gear and ride but once i start the bike and allow it to warm up then shut it off again and try to restart i lose all spark or i cant get gas... im not totally sure but it wont restart while its hot. I have to let it sit and have a go again the next day, at wich time it starts right up. A little shot of starter fluid in the carbs and its golden purs like a kitten. Ii dont understand what is causing this. Does anyone have any insight on what this could be? Or how i could go about troubleshooting the problem? If so please email or reply to this post.

Have you tried rolling the throttle open as you crank it when it's warm?

Yes sir, i have tried everything to do with the throttle while restarting even starter fluid in the carbs on an already hot motor... which ive been advised against. Lol. But nothing will get it cranked once its warm. I believe im losing spark once the engine warms up. I ront undersatnd what would cause this.

Hmmm... couple things: if you have a GS550 engine in a GS850 frame, I'd say you might want to head over to the GSResources. They know every nut, bolt, and wire about each of those bikes. They generally aren't very accepting of custom / rat projects though, so be forewarned.

In regards to the spark / fuel issue: how old are your coils? If they are the originals they can go bad in time. If it needs starter fluid to start, then either there is a vapor lock issue or your carbs need cleaned out.

Where is gs resources? I live in winston salem nc. I bought my bike the way it is... amd i have three sets of coils the ones i havenon the bike tested good on a volt meter... between 8.5 and 9 somthing i believe when i googled it. But if there is a gsresources near me id be willing to ask them . Thanks

If it was heat killing the spark the machine would shut off on its own. You say it runs as long as you want, then you shut it off, correct? The same goes for fuel, if its vapor locking that would starve it of fuel while running, and shut off eventually.
Theres not too many things that would cause the machine to not hot start, unless maybe the floats are stuck and the motor floods after shutdown.
We need some diagnostics;
When you try to restart, I assume the starter is turning. Does the motor turn over slower when hot?
Pull the oil dipstick out and smell it, does it smell like fuel?
Pull both plugs and have a look at them, if one or both look extremely sooty black, or dry and white, this could point to a carb problem. Contrary to popular belief, you can foul a plug in a fourstroke.
The next time you test it, before you restart, pull a plug and hook up the wire, hold the end of the plug on the head and run the starter. This is an easy test to determine spark.
Also, check the dumb stuff like the choke, and the fuel pet chicken. Try running it, then turn the fuel off before shutting the motor off. Turn the fuel back on and try to restart.

I always think electrical for hot starting problems. What does the spark look like when you start it hot?

Rich and bmf have the right idea, I have seen coils fail when warmed up/hot, although it was an automotive application.
