Carb Slides?

Well, it's been a good season or two since I've had any issues with the bike. Like that was bound to last lol.

I'm having issues with what I believe to be the carb slides. The bike runs fine: chugs along happily. Until I grab a handful of throttle. It'll hesitate and kind of bog for a second at around 5k, then it shoots off like nothing happened. It's not terrible, but it's enough to upset me, and could be potentially dangerous if I need to be out of a situation quickly. Carbs were synced last season after the valves were adjusted, but I'll check them again just for shiggles. I've never found a reason to check float levels, but I can do that, too, if necessary. Any ideas?

Relevant mods are as follows (and in my signature): K&N lunchbox, Jardine exhaust, and 22.5/65/147.5 jets and 2 washers.

I would start with the float levels, then start digging deeper.

This is nearly a guaranteed symptom of a slide that is rising too fast.
Plug 1 hole in the slide.

Sounds good, guys. I have tomorrow off, so I guess I'll at least check the float levels.

As far as plugging a hole in the slide, how does one go about doing this? I mean, I could quiksteel it, but I'd prefer to have a reversible mod, if possible. I read somewhere about nylon screws..?

Double posting FTW!

So, if anyone reads this (or if you know me, you know this already), I'm an idiot. And I can't count. 3 turns on the idle air screws makes a HUGE difference vs 2. Everything else checked out on the bike, including float height, so I decided I'd just take a quick run through the rest of the tuning before I got to plugging the slides. Turns out, the pilot circuit was rich, which made the mid-main and main circuits momentarily rich upon giving it the berries, hence the hesitation.

So, before you go plugging your slides, be sure everything else checks out. You may just have a rich spot somewhere cause by jetting, not by the slides.

But does it act up if you open throttle slowly (its too late now, don't try to reverse and test it) ...
If it was rich via mixture screws, you probably had other symptoms, including slow throttle opening bogs.

Issues when opening throttle = rich.
Issues on steady throttle = lean.

But glad its sorted to not be a problem now.
