So riding home tonight I'm going and my bike just cuts off while doing about 50. All the lights, including the lights below the speedo and tach. I pull over to the curb and it won't cut back on. Kill switch is not engaged and the key is in the on position. The oil light won't even come on with the key in the on position. Where should I start in the diagnosis?

Are the lights extremely dim, or is nothing coming on at all? If you're getting nothing at all, look at the fuse or a loose wire at the battery.

It's opener there in the wide open air...

No lights at all. I'll check in the morning for that! Thanks.

Check both positive and your negative battery cable (both ends of it) for solid/firm connection

It's this fuse. The one in the red and green housing. Put a new fuse in. Went to cut it on and pop. Blew another one. Same fuse. Any ideas on what would cause this particular fuse to blow?

Thanks!

Bad news: your bike only has one Fuse for the entire system. So literally anything can be causing it to blow. The good news: you have an exposed wire somewhere which "should" be visible if you really look for it.

Start by looking for a worn wire around the steering stem since those wires see the most movement. Have you or a PO added anything to the electric system?

No nothing added. I have the faring off now trying to find where it's grounding. Thanks!

Could this be it? It appears one of the connectors is missing. Top right. I haven't found any exposed wires yet.

Ok... is there a wire leading into the plug where that connector is missing?,  and if so on the other side of that plug does the spade part of connector look black or gnarly at all?

Other semi common places to look. .. the cable clusters coming from bars and past the steering stem get pinched sometimes?, main harness plugs under the tank on either side of frame? , cables leading up from rear of gearbox/stand area? Cable coming in from tailight maybe? ... battery leads not solid and stuttering connection?

There is a lot of wires to the eye... but it is a fairly simple layout overall... any recent wrenching/maintenance done?
