gs500f 2007 dj kit and pod k&n

Had my O7 gs500f  dj kit stage two with a k&n pod filter with a delevick slip on  do  I need the restriction ring in the k&n filter with these mods with out it the bike is hard to choke and does not idle at 3000

Try the restrictor ring. If it lowers the idle - then you're fine. Else try the stock filter. If that lowers it back you're fine.
Else you may need to go to a 20 pilot.
If you have the stock needles, go back to it, its easier to jet it with that. DJ crap is rather hard to do a slam dunk jetting on. It takes a lot of fine tuning.
