sv650 rear shock

hey guys, i was wondering if a 2001 sv650 rear shock would be a good trade out for my gs 500.  it has an ohlins on it.  would this raise my bike too much, or could i lower it back down? i remember someone talking about being able to lower the rear shock by cutting the dogbones? i heard that changing the rear shock can sometimes mess up the balance of the bike so that it wont handle as well, any truth to this?   i'm getting the shock for $25.

here's a link to info someone I was given by another member some time ago. You could adopt the info to your ohlins sv shock. Doing this with stock sv shock didn't give any advantages over stock gs shock but Ohlins changes things...still not an easy swap.

What weight spring is on the Ohlins?
Do you have stock fork spring or after market?
If it is rear is toostiff  then the front will feel too mushy. The bike needs to be set up so the front and back go up & down together.
Not sure if the Ohlins is ride height adjustable. I know the Penske is. When I had my SV, I put on a worked GSXR front end and it was too stiff so I had to install a Penske to make it work right, yeah that tough decision.
