gas tank fuel line connection question

Hello, I'm hoping someone here can help me. I'm putting this bike back together and I can't fit the clamps onto the fuel lines (to petcock.) Seems the male ends are too close together to allow the clamps to be side-by-side. Plus, I was hoping to change out the fuel lines, but the aftermarket/universal lines are even thicker than stock, making it even harder to align the clamps. Everything was together at one point, so I know it fits.

Questions:
1. do the clamps get staggered, or are they same height next to each other?
2. is there a recommended size for replacement lines?
3. the front rubber mount fell off the tank and is lost. I tried to use a heater hose cut open, but that was too thick. Any recommendations on a replacement piece? Without it the gas tank moves a little too much.

Thanks!

I've been using 1/4" Tygon for fuel line. Slightly smaller than stock, but works fine and is easier to get a hold of than 7mm line.

Good to know. My hoses really should be replaced, prob original from '89.

Search on ebay, i found some 7mm id / 11mm od fuel line for pretty cheap. I bet you could get a replacement tank rubber from your dealer for pretty cheap. You can check one of the sites like partsfish.com for a rough price (or order it from them).

Be aware, this is not very wise advise!

I just replaced my fuel lines on my 2007 GS.  I used 5/16" dia. lines.  Bike bandit has it.  blue in color like tygon.  not as thick as the black rubber hose from autostore.

Yeah, I believe most if the auto parts store hose is reinforced for pressurized fuel from a fuel pump and is much thicker.
