I DID IT!!!!

I finally did it you guys, I fixed my idle issue!  :woohoo: :woohoo: It was in fact because of out of spec valves. The intake valves weren't too bad, but the exhaust valves were way out of spec. The bike has almost 25,000 miles on it and this was my first valve adjustment  :embarrassed:. I'm so happy to have her running like when I first bought her. I was getting ready to sell her too  :nono:. The shop I went to was going to charge me $800 to do what I just did in 3 hours. So, thanks to you guys and a huge thanks to BaltimoreGS's YouTube video. I'm am a happy rider again.

Congrats! It seems daunting until you do it, and once you're done, it doesn't seem so bad!

Exactly! I thought it was going to turn into a day job, that's why I put it off for so long.

Even for someone like me who has done engine rebuilds on cars, it was daunting to do the first time. Taking apart a motorcycle is so much different than taking about a vehicle. Everything seems more fragile for some reason. But once you're done, you don't even know why you put it off for longer than you should. It's the sort of thing that you do once and you can now do it in your sleep!

They said the problem is that it take a lot of time. If it took 3 hours for me (a first timer) it shouldn't take that long for them.

there is a part of me that wants to know the name of this establishment in order to encourage active avoidance.

I am assuming they came from the POV that "we have to figure out what the problem is".

I always find that the feeling that you fixed it yourself has a wonderful satisfaction to it. Congratulations to you and well done.

It's the same place that broke a piece off my carbs and won't replace it. It's called Cycle Salvage and is located in Hayward, CA. I think they only have one shop.
