Just read your post about going AMA to get to church - what was the title of this thread again? Going through something similar but nowhere near as severe I do understand the temptation to act like a normal human being for once. Then I remember that I ride a bike and that I want to get back on it, so I accept the aggravation and do as I'm told.

Points taken my friends and criticisms well deserved. the screaming muscles have calmed down. bone still griping. ill let it tell me when its ready. because if this FX displaces beyond tolerable spec, i go for ORiF again. would rather not lol. will just work on the ROM (Range Of Motion) and the alphabet excercises. went backwards from Z . made it thru M before muscle/bone said enough. the alphabet excercise, best howto i can come up with is take M for example. put heel/talus on solid surface and keep it there it doesnt chg position. the letter writing happens with the great toe./foot and you write out each letter. ( hard enough without fractures lol) im bored i may take my tablet, rig up an easel, then position a stylus when i acquire one being held between the great toe and one beside it and draw. i am going to save funds and spend a night at a local hotel.  and use their hot tub. i was cleared for this. just no longer than 20 minutes. updates to follow. weight is still high 130s low 141ish. i need another 10lbs or so to get enough room for the implant surgery in 2 weeks. i think for mobilitys sake im going to find a second hand currie e500 its a stand up scooter with a seat. i can use this indoors ( church or whatnot) i use the handicapped scooters at the grocers when i go shopping on occasion. anyhoo updates to follow later on today

Ive come to the conclusion that my ankle is nowhere near ready for excercises of any kind. it still a sharp burn like a fracture. these wet and cold days dont help. i elevate it it kills me if i put it on ground, not so bad but still. then weve got a rainy coldfront coming through midweek. may look into a second opinion somewhere or may have to HTFU as mister would say lol. i think doc allowing ROM as tolerated was a tad premature. but me not taking the chair monday didnt help either. baah

Am going to probably reschedule my ortho appt. something aint right. i feel like im harrassing them calling every few days, i know fractures arent painless and have a lifetime problem. ( pains and aches) just something doesnt feel right. the pain is lessening, im at an 8 on the ten scale. to me this is normal. been like this for years. will call late this week after the cold front. that will put me close to a 10 on the scale. it will also tell me where i stand. and probably push me mentally. but these open fractures err open as in not joined together leave me prone to post traumatic arthritis. this is the mentally taxing part..

Called ortho today. told nurse whats going on, will know orthos recommendations tomorrow. tried elevation, hurts like a biatch, iced it til almost numb still felt bone. everything else mellowed out, tried laying down wasnt physically exhausted, but mentally who knows?, i slept for a long while, tried compression using the aircast. found the blowsuck pump. ( what nurse called it) used to inflate bladders inside boot. blows one side turn it over it sucks . (used to inflate or deflate the air bladders) i inflated them full maybe beyond, to point of pain, then backed off a bit. helped nerve and muscle pain, but not the fracture pain. meh, so i fired up the stereo blasted it lol to get my mind off of it. oh also set up an xbox 360 controller on pc so i can game a bit. anyhoo time to sign off and curl up a bit. more to come later on

I dug out my tens unit, on the fracture side (distal fib) pushin 103 mA on media tib side pushin 96mA its raging like hades right now, (cold weather is killing me lol    ) i meet neurosurgeon tuesday at 8am to discuss implant surgery will be fasting starting tues at 12A. just incase he can get OR time that day. btw wieght up to 146. im nearly back at normal. ill end up losing a bit after procedure so im trying to fatten up a bit for the implant.

When my legs are just normal ache from long work days... it feels worse if my feet get cold.... normally have a fresh pair of thick hiking socks to put on. .. makes easier for circulation to keep bodyheat going in the lower legs. ..

Now I understand you probably not real flexible to be putting socks on and off Yama,  but you are keeping something close on your lower legs to keep heat in yeah?

.... another thing I try sometimes when I can focus enough.. lay down comfortable and imagine a energy ball slowly spinning in chest. .. 'build' it up to a healthy heated glow... imagine cloudy streamers of that energy flowing off and down to where the pain and cold are! ...

Sounds weird right!? ... mind over matter! .. and the mind can be a powerful thing! ... kind of meditation I guess... something to try seeing as you do have a little spare time on your hands?!?

Wires are good and the battery is good. i reverse from side a to b and strong side will reverse as well. thats alright though, just has to run through the end of the week. the implant surgery draws near.

this is the unit ive got. that blew up lol. well partially. the surgery for the spinal cord stimulator  takes place either early this coming week or a week from tuesday give or take. its made by mini med and is placed inside my body. but close to surface so battery can be charged. the trial unit worked wonders. but this unit ( the tens unit) works from outside in current run thru skin affecting nerves. i was trying to use it to also help with the fracture pain. it failed on both counts. the SCS works via a direct connection to my central nervous system ( targeted btw ) basically lower half of my body . but since my tens unit is still under warranty for another month or two, might as well have a backup plan Eh?

Im guessing on the implant surgery my skin serves as part of the circuit. more than likely the positive. ( or whichever not affected too much by static lol.) the charger being the other side. btw janx you were right about something on the tens i think. if you were right, i pulled a wire loose when I used restroom. or the machine just tripped out. its working now. just one minor issue. batteries dying. ( a +9v) im running it until its gone. then during day tomorrow after i get off phone with tammy ( the minimed person) im going to dig thru my stash of power supplies and just go AC since im not going anywhere. ive got a 9v centre positive here i KNOW it. the tens unit is AC/DC . WILL call tens ppl and see if it will allow charging of a Ni-Cd +9v battery. otherwise ill spend a small fortune in batteries. one gal i had read on the SCS forums before her implant was going thru 4 batts per DAY. CANT wait for the implant. unit should be good for 10 years once implanted. if revision surgeries arent needed. as long as it doesnt short or leads dont migrate im good. only thing i dread is a CSF headache. i.e. a migraine on steroids. or if leads migrate and hits wrong nerve, same thing. yet, nothing i can do if shutting it down doesnt work. but she said risks less than maybe 4%. only requirement is MRI safe leads. because i will be needing those sooner vs later. these i insist on. if not used and im out of it, and they MRI me, worst case is the electrodes heat up and i get internal 3rd deg. burns. but she said the surescan (mri leads) are used nearly 99% of time nowadays. so risks aside im looking forward to this. this is like TENS on steroids. it works from the inside out. vs outside in. it confuses brain minimising pain signals. plus ive already been mapped out from trial. the fracture pain/arthritis pain relief well partial relief was a bonus. i asked her if they could at trial setup if this could be done, she said " its not really designed for physical. just neuropathic. i said " if it does BONUS if not ahh well. if not if it can semi block pain signals from ankles upwards ill be happy" it did both. i meet Dr Kahn tuesday at 8am to plan this. hoping to get it done this week. heck if he can get me in to OR tues im game. ill fast beginning midnight tues morning just in case.

The afro-engineering-jerry-rigging Mcgyver strikes again. i just completed a working power supply for my TENS unit. since max amperage is 105ma, i set aside a 9v 300ma unit in favour of a 115ma 9v centre positive one. i KNEW I Had one. finally i could retire for the "night" at4am lol. except for one problem. plug didnt fit. soooooooooo i dug around in the parts stash again. found a fitting plug. NOOOOOOO it was attached to a 12v car charger. then i remembered, ive a box of personal 2 way radios. mostly kenwoods. and 3 chargers. yet only 1 battery pack. so i cannibalised its plug. a tad skinnier than called for by maybe a half MM. but same polarity but wrong voltage. soooo, i connected striped side to striped side and solid to solid. left connections exposed held power button down and inserted plug and VOILA TENS powers up. i staggered tape joints, so they dont sit on top of eachother even if taped. (electrical tape/taping job is FUGLY) BUT IT WILL work until i can fire up my soldering torch tomorrow for a perm. connection. i Swear i think i was an EE in a former life lol. (but didnt mean to offend anybody by opening line.) was so UN pc lol but i quit trying to be pc ages ago. didnt mean to offend afro engineers, or germans or fans of Mcgyver lol. and no ive dug the hole deep enough i wont explain afro engineer. or its slogan/motto. but im happy tonight i can sleep with a medium level of pain relief. BTW for relevances sake i repositioned 2 of the electrode pads over the unset fracture it works even better. its a cr*p shoot there. theyre reusable to an extent  ( even instructions cover this. and i found out walmart stocks the pads/electrodes. so once funds permit, will grab a pack of them. i WILL be putting the unit to use during recovery from the SCS implant surgery. once the uber painkiller wears off. But for safetys sake ill clear that with minimed first. the GOALS are after all for the surgeon to NOT have to go back inside. not for a few years anyways.  but tens would be idea if cleared so i dont use near as many of the meds.
Weight is still in mid-upper 140s this is good. once/if im cleared for PT ill build muscle  and be back to semi normalcy

i will be issued Identification tho explaining that i have an implanted medical device and it will state make and model and MRI allowances/restrictions. should be no or minimal restrictions. but it guarantees a hassle at airports lol. course im not flying anytime soon so meh. hoping to visit australia soon. so that is where the close inspection by TSA would happen. ill have the credentials ( which are accepted by TSA) but as a failsafe, ive got a medic alert bracelet tattoo on my wrist ive had since '97, Ill add   "Implanted medical device close to it. the tattoo says "diabetic" if by some odd chance they DIDNT IMPLANT the MRI safe unit/leads, id only be able to get a head scan. id also have to probably have an addl tattoo made stating NO MRI except in head. in case GOD forbid i was out cold and couldnt warn them. but those units accd to them are being phased out.
Am nervous but the NEURO is one of the best so  im at ease there

I wished i hadnt researched the complications of this procedure. running the gamut between device failure, and death lol. then theres CSF issues, epidural hematomas  which could press on cord causing paralysis. BUT 3 things working in my favour . 1 odds of a problem of any kind are 1 in 100. so 1% then Dr. Edward Kahn has 30 years as an orthopedic with a specialty in the spine, so im good there. downside is hes got the bedside manner of adolf hitler it seems, but his job is to fix me not make me laugh or smile. and not to mince words either. its the Anesthaesiologist and the nurses secondary duty to see im and not . hell i got apprehensive when my ankle doc ( my ortho) put the Ti plate into my right ankle. its not 100% yet but its healed. will be back at 100% on R ankle by august id say. but as it is it feels decent. i guess my mental hangup   is overthinking it. LOL ill end up the bionic man before its said and done with lol.

I see Dr kahn tomorrow at 8am. will fill yall in on that visit and the schedule. and when the implant takes place, ill document it to  the hilt. i.e. ill get copies of the fluoroscope film/vid, CT/Mri etc and will post here before they knock me out. then again when they   bring me out of general anaesthesia. look forward to that update  ill be loopy as hell lol. ( like when i used to post while drunk years back.) anyhoo that covers updates through  surgery, but daily updates still will happen, as will my general postwhoritude  lol
