Bike is back to flooding through the filters....

Hey everyone,

After I thought I fixed the problem it's occurring again. This time randomly on the way home. The symptoms? The bike no longer holds an idle and sounds wet when you grab a handful of throttle. I confirmed it by observing fuel dripping out of my pod filters.

The last time this happened, the floats were out of adjustment so I adjusted them and it was fine. Obviously poorly adjusted floats won't close and things go bad after that. This time, the floats *should* be back in spec, and I installed a carb rebuild kit (minus jets) - its occurring again. The only difference is I pulled the PAIR system completely off not too long ago without adjusting the bike. Which leads me to believe I need to rejet. A few questions:

1. What is the standard for float adjustment? I did them on the bench, but I want to make sure I did it right.
2. I currently have a Dynojet jet kit installed. What jets should I go down to, and where should I get them?
3. What else should I be looking for here? Maybe a bad petcock? How would I know that?

I will be riding the bus until this is fixed, and public transit in Vegas is awful. I would really appreciate anyone's help. I would really like to have parts ordered today. Thank you!

Find out why the float stop needle is catching the wall of the spigot. I've seen new spigots catch, cos they were manufactured poorly.
Find the position in which it catches it the least, and set it that way.

I'm not sure what you mean by spigot. How do I find that position?

Take off the bowl and when the float is all the way down - when the needle is at its lowest - thats' where its likely to catch the wall of the spigot.
Find out what its doing, and then pull the spigot out and see where its smoothest as it rises in the thing.
I may be just 1 carb.

Or you got crappy O rings again. Chinese Rubber is utter garbage. Those O rings could have easily died if they weren't made of gas resistant synthetic neoprene or some such material. Rubber = bad. Synthetic that looks like rubber but isn't = good.

I think by the spigot he means the needle valve seat. 

If you never have, I would recommend getting new OEM needle valve sets.  It's the only long term successful way I've dealt with this problem.  Unfortunately it's not cheap!

As far as verifying the float height.  Visual inspection is only good if the needle valve is sealing properly.  The best way to verify that everything is working is with the clear tube from the carb drain test.

Do either of you guys know where to get an o-ring kit that actually works? Obviously harbor freight is out, and I'd like to have surplus. Bike bandit has each o-ring for ~$3.00 a pop. They really know how to twist the knife...

check auto parts places for the orings. have had to buy them there for my gs' myself.

There shouldn't really be a need to buy extra o-rings if you go OEM because they should be good for a long time if the bike is ridden.  A few sites that I like for OEM parts are...

So small update.

Yanked the carbs and checked everything. One carb's float seemed a LITTLE out of spec. Probably just over 1mm difference. O-rings looked okay, think I might order them anyway. But the big problem is this:

After draining, when I opened the bowl to one it was dry and the bowl cover gasket was dry as well. I opened the other one and the gasket was soaked in fuel and it seemed there was small amounts of fuel getting past it. Nothing major, in fact you can't even tell on the outside of the carb if any has got out. What could cause this? I'm not sure if I'm adjusting the floats properly either. I did it per the haynes guide but it was very difficult to see when the needle was "just seated" while hold the carbs upside down and rotating them.

Also, where can I get fuel line? I need a few new lines I guess too, and I can't find a shop that has 8mm ID fuel line for the tank/petcock hook up. Any suggestions?
