When I was younger, my dad took me to endurocross events whenever they came to town.  That's where I first noticed the sound differences between the two-strokes and four-strokes that competed, and that's where I first developed a preference for the deeper, four-stroke sound.

I guess that bias is now carrying over to my own bike.  :)

BTW, does this mean that there is at least one Yoshi slip-on that fits our bikes: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yoshimura-TRS-Slip-On-Exhaust-Stainless-Fits-Suzuki-GS500F-2005-2010-SS-SS-AL-/331357175125?fits=Model%3AGS500F ?

There are Yoshis that fit, yes. Yoshis are some of the most popular slip-ons for the GS

As you can see, they're quite pricey compared to the delkevic.

Devikah - I have the 8" slip-on, but have yet to hear what it sounds like on the bike.  My phone and washer decided to take easter literally and died, so I'm currently without a good working phone to take pics and videos.  I'm trying to recover what I had on my old phone, but it's going to be awhile.  As far as sound, the 8" can I bought does come with a silencer, if you're concerned about it being too loud for you on the highway.  And I had custom headers/midpipe made, so I cut probably ten pounds off my bike.  As far as wrapping with heat tape, the tape transfers heat away from the engine, down the pipes, and out the exhaust.  The guys in the racing world (car, dragster, etc) wrap all their headers in them to help boost performance.  That's where I got the idea from.  As far as rust, it's negatiable from what I've found.  You'll get no more rust than if you were to just leave them open and bare.  As far as other slip ons are concerned, as long as you can get the right flange to fit on the bike, you can pretty much put any slip on on.  Especially if you plan on cutting your own pipe to to the muffler.  The guy I went to does racing pipes for cars, so he was able to help me out with the sizing.  I went up a 1/4" in pipe (went from 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" pipe) to a 3" collector and stepped it down the the mid-pipe that came with the Delkevic slip-on.  All I did for ordering was searched the mufflers for the 04500 on their site and selected the first carbon fiber 8" racing slip on.  It's similar in specs to the Twin (or Two) Brothers racing slip on, but comes with a noise silencing baffle, which is what I wanted (in case cops give me issues here).

So im reading that the header crossover pipe is important. For what - low end torque?

I just bought a used VH system that I will mount on my 2009, it has no crossover pipe.

Am I going to be sorry?  Should I add a crossover pipe?

hmm i'll post a video of my dual exhaust on my bike.

You can all get an idea. Then I'll post a video today or tomorrow

Hey hey calm down bro ;) .. we are a happy casual group here and Mr Finke has been around a fair while...

The boom thing is a occasional running joke and I'm sorry if he upset you with it... :thumb: ....

with some more time on this board you may notice how we all 'mostly' get along like a reunion event, a few jokes.. a few jibes... general chat. .. and even a few disagreements. .. what you usually won't find is massive flame wars and high aggression arguments..  which can be found on so many forums...

Its like the bike itself, easy to ride, user friendly and one anybody can enjoy...

I'm a member of a few different forums and this one is by far the most mellow, it's refreshing really. Sorry to thread jack, back to exhausts lol.  :thumb:

All good from my view.. refreshing to see a newer member on any forum acknowledge an error and continue without angst! :thumb:

Yep back to exhausts

VH has larger headpipes and a much smoother transistion Y into mid-pipe\can, it does not need an H pipe.  It will deserve a ceramic coating this winter.  With the lunchbox K&N, recommended jetting, no emissions crap and advanced timing the bike has really woken up, and much better cold starts.  Initial reports of better mileage, even with 15T front,  but yet to be confirmed with a reserve to reserve test ride. Sounds like a bigger bike but yet not offensive, at least to me.  I repacked the can.

GF (primary rider) is happy with it so really what else matters.

cept changing the oil filter is much less nice!  Change oil more often and filter less I guess. :thumb:

Sorry I haven't been around much guys - I had knee surgery two months ago, so I've been pretty busy simply recovering from that!  Needless to say, I didn't get a chance to ride this season - I just got back to walking a couple weeks ago, and my leg isn't anywhere close to 100%.  But, on the bright side, I'm just about finished with all the upgrades I had been planning on doing to the bike.  I got custom pipes made, (no crossover, went out 1/4" in diameter, down to a 3" collector) into the 8" Delkevic racing slip on.  I'm planning on wrapping the pipes in black exhaust heat tape, to try and maximize the flow.  I was running hot before as well (I actually melted the back of my wheel fender), so I'm hoping the shielding will help with that. She's in lots of pieces now, and I'm hoping to get her to a shop so they can assemble her and check the valves sometime in October.  But I've got to buy a new phone that month too, so we'll see when I actually get her running.  But even if I don't ride her, she'll be running by the end of the year.

As far as the thread jacking and general shenanigans... I don't care! lol I know that no matter how hard you try, eventually people will get off topic.  Besides, I'm always down for some good natured teasing and fun!  :D
