You as well! The leg is definitely the worst thing and most inconvenient bone I've broken.

My graduate work was in a bioengineering research lab.  I designed bone screws and something called a bioreactor to grow human bone tissue in the lab.  We liked playing around with different nutrient levels and watching how well bones grew back together, and we made screws and things that already contained those nutrients.  Implants that fed the body to heal faster and biodegraded at the same rate as the tissue grew back.
I'm really proud of it.
So, thanks for the x-ray.  They're really cool.  It's a nice, clean break.  I bet your doc was happy.

As a medical student, I'm not technically supposed to tell anyone that a magnesium supplement significantly speeds up fracture healing, and not just calcium.  And that most people are extremely deficient in both, along with vitamin D since most people spend all day indoors.   Magnesium is what converts vitamin D into its active form.  And that a lot of doctors are too busy to prescribe it, since they worry you might need a blood panel.
So, I'll just leave this here.

Just as...you know...a talking point.

Wladziu ill be damned  :) i agree on the magnesium and calcium thing. dealing with 3 ankle fractures myself ( tib/fib L and fib R) ortho has recommended both as supplements. i am deficient on both . unsure on rages ssituation. but id say judging by trend, id say his is similar.

I was never told anything about Mg or Ca as supplements, I'm supposed to start walking on it this week.

what would you recommend for blood flow/circulation? seems my own bone healing is SLOW lol. i know im deficient in magnesium and calcium, am in an aircast on tib/fib side for almost 3 more weeks. fib is ugly but stable. or better yet, how do you convince a guy whos not used to being lazy, to be lazy? dont want to be plated on this side too.

Ok, link not work so I looked it up anyway, maybe not exact same article, you're the med student not me! ... I don't know/recognise all the medical terminology but can infer from surrounding info....

Excessive zinc can do it sure, but its not a "if zinc then copper deficiency" automatically ... as I read it anyway... some people are copper def from other issues.
Some zinc is necessary and if not dietary then supplemental? ... if myeloneuropathy does present from reasonable zinc intake then couldn't supplemental copper be used to reverse clinical factors?

Anyway..  don't wanna have a zinc war.... I'm not a rabid advocate of the stuff... I just take it sometimes when I feel brain frazzled and it seems to work ok... ~shrug~ ... didn't mean to undercut your book learnin! :thumb:

You've had circulation problems for years, yama.  We've talked about this before.  And I don't feel like debating beta-blockers vs diabetes, when there's other things you can do.  Primum non nocere.

You say you're not lazy, but your body is a wreck.  You've almost lost that leg once, already.  If infection doesn't get you sooner or later, then I'll bet my butthole that you'll have a stroke within the next ten years.  Get a craigslist wheelchair, paint flames on it, and tell people it's because your d1ck is too heavy.  Go chase fat chicks around a track, till their runner's-high kicks in.
And find some way to put that brain of yours to use.  Why do you waste it?  You literally figured out sonic therapy before an ortho surgeon.  That dude made $8,000 in the hour it took you to jerk off, yesterday....and you did part of his job FOR him.
I've been gone for 5 or 6 years.  In that time, you could've already been a paramedic, three times over, and on your way to PA or NP school.  Sewing together drunks at the ER and prescription privileges.  Overseas military contractors are paying paramedics $150,000 FECKING DOLLARS, tax free.
You could have done the GOMAD diet and the Rippetoe or 5x5 routine.  $5 a day for a gallon of milk, and an hour of workout once every two days.  I did that, and gained 35 pounds of muscle in 6 months.  I bet you'd have never even broken those bones.

I was your friend, Aaron.  It makes me upset to think of finding you in another 5-6 years, in the exact same spot with the exact same problems....or worse.

No offense taken.
Zinc can work like a B vitamin complex, in the right quantities.  Yes.  It helps regulate and promote neurotransmitters.  Helps with depression and neuropathologies.  Read this:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23567517

BUT, in America, people believe if one is good, two is better.  A "little bit" to some people means half a bottle.  In the paper I posted, the lady was popping 10 supplement pills a day for the flu.  She checked into ED when she wasn't able to walk or feel her hands.  Zinc blocks your intestines from absorbing copper, and it's very slow to excrete.  They gave her IV copper for two weeks, and were never able to fully reverse it the nerve damage.
It's also being linked to Alzheimer's and stuff now.
I don't really like playing around with brain chemistry.

So, be careful with that stuff, please.  If you take too much calcium, you can have a heart attack.  Too much Mg will blow your kidneys.
I was talking about it with Yama, because we used to have nice science discussions.
Didn't mean to sound like I was biting your head off.

yamahonkawazuki

Im not giving up yet wladziu :) ill get this taken care of then proceed forwards :).   im just used to being on my feet. that is a minimum for now. BTW shoot mary a line shed probably love to hear from you.

Nah I'm all good Wlad. .. I hear ya on double dose stupids. ..

I only ever take Mg or Zn when I've had a huge physical or mental or both.... day and I want to be able to move/ think a little easier without grandpa sounds next day...

The whole' take everything twice' crew have real expensive pee I figure!

Gonna look up more info on copper though. .  Interesting!

Good link on the zinc too!! ... Gotta say ... I plowed thru it like a wet mud field! You dang medico types use those high end multi syllable tech words just to mask a simple conversation into 'secret handshake' mode!!!  :icon_lol: :icon_lol:

Secret handshake?  Of course not.  Don't be silly.  Whyever would you say such a thing?
Now, please sign here on the dotted line.  Don't you want to receive treatment, Mr. Janx?
