gs 450 with points please please please help

Hey peeps
So last night I bought a gs 450 minus its starter motor, popped in a spare gs500 one I had lying around and no joy, the starter idler gear has different teeth.... Swopped it with a gs 500 one and everything's working like a charm, now my problem is wiring, this bike stood for about 15 years, it has a points and condensor system on it that seems to be factory, if anyone can help with a wiring diagram I'd appreciate it

No clue on the year. I can give you the vin number if that will help? It's in South Africa

Definitely head over to the GSResources. I think the year may actually be part of the VIN # though? Or at least it will be part of the model # on the VIN..... for example, my GS450 is an "S" model from 1980. On the neck, it is stamped with "GS450ST". That "T" on the end is the year designation.

I spent ages last night trying to find a way of deciding the vin number. Gs450100514.  I didn't have any luck lol. I managed to come right with the wiring, I used a gs500e wiring diagram but left out the ignition circuit as the 450 has points, good news is that I now have lights and the starter runs but u have no spark. I do have 12v at the coils. Gonna try new condensers today and swe if that helps. Does anyone know the points gap for this thing? Google hasn't been very helpful with this info
